Kidscreen 2025: Digitoonz’s next moves in animation, VFX, and new formats

At Kidscreen Summit 2025, Digitoonz is presenting a reinforced global strategy, marked by its recent expansion into Europe and a stronger emphasis on co-productions and co-financiation. The company, which has long established itself as a key player in the animation service sector, is now leveraging its expertise to create and distribute its own IP.

Vrinda Sood, CEO of Citrus Ink Studios, Vikas Kumar, CEO and Founder of Digitoonz, and María Bonaria Fois, president of Digitoonz Spain

Vikas Kumar, CEO and Founder of Digitoonz, described to Prensario in Miami, the company’s current positioning in the animation market as a moment of strategic growth. ‘We brought María Bonaria Fois on board as president of our newly established unit in Spain. We’re also joined by Vrinda Sood, CEO of Citrus Ink Studios, with whom we recently launched DGX, a joint venture focused primarily on VFX, live-action, animation, and gaming’. This expansion, Kumar explained, aligns with the company’s increasing collaborations with North American and European partners. Digitoonz has been steadily involved in TV series and feature film productions, working with renowned studios across different markets.

Europe has become a focal point for Digitoonz’s growth, driven by its active participation in high-profile projects and the increasing demand for service-based animation. ‘We have been working on multiple projects for major brands’, Kumar noted, without disclosing specific titles due by deals in works. ‘Beyond that, we have expanded our production services, which led us to establish DGX and apply our expertise in Asian animation’. The European market, with its strong co-production culture, presented a natural opportunity. ‘Co-productions are very popular here. We see the potential to secure European financing and produce films and TV series with a more global scope’.

The company’s expansion into Spain is central to this strategy. María Bonaria Fois, President of Digitoonz Spain, outlined the three key business lines that the company is developing in the region. ‘One is selling the services of our two studios in India—one for 2D and another for 3D. The second is seeking new IPs for co-production and development. And the third is building a strong catalog, both by producing our own properties and distributing third-party IPs’.

Spain’s strategic location also positions Digitoonz as a bridge to Latin America and the Hispanic market in the United States. While their focus in Europe remains on service offerings and IP development, distribution efforts naturally extend beyond. ‘We are definitely projecting towards Latin America and the Spanish-speaking U.S. market because it’s a logical and natural fit for us. We speak the same language, and it’s a market we’ve been working with for many years. We know the players, the streamers, and we absolutely want to continue developing our presence there’, remarked Fois.

Also, At Kidscreen, the company is also unveiling new developments in original IPs. ‘A few weeks ago, we announced a partnership with Morgana Studio for a new IP called YugiBao’, said Fois. ‘This property originally started in the Web3 space two or three years ago. Now we’re developing it into a full 360-degree franchise, including a Roblox game, a console video game, an animated series, and consumer products’. Beyond YugiBao, Digitoonz has additional properties in development, though they remain under wraps for now.

DGX: Elevating animation and VFX with joint expertise

The expansion of Digitoonz also includes the creation of DGX, a joint venture along to Citrus Ink Studios, which aims to extend the company’s expertise beyond animation into visual effects and gaming. Sood explained the rationale behind the initiative. ‘DGX is a joint venture between Citrus Ink Studios and Digitoonz, both based in New Delhi, with over 30 years of combined expertise in animation. Digitoonz brings extensive production experience, while Citrus Ink contributes its creative and technological expertise. By combining these strengths, we’ve created DGX to introduce a new company to the market’.

For DGX, the focus this year is on expanding into new areas of content production. ‘This year will be about bringing in new projects, whether in animation, gaming, or visual effects’, said Sood. ‘The idea is to focus on the AVGC sector—Animation, VFX, Gaming, and Comics—and see how we can combine our collective experience to expand our capabilities within this segment’.

Looking ahead, Digitoonz is preparing for a year of active engagement in major industry markets. ‘We’re definitely aiming for Annecy, as well as Cartoon Forum and Cartoon Movie’, said Kumar. ‘These are our key targets, and we might also consider attending Bologna Book Fair’.
