Fresh TV Fiction 2022: corporate collapses and explosive female characters

The Wit offered its dedicated Fresh TV session for fiction content, where it explored the new genre trends for TV. Virginia Mouseler highlighted as key themes in the narratives of the last year: personal and business collapse and mentioned that ‘explosive female characters’ stories continue up.

Fresh TV Fiction had its session on the second day of MIPTV 2022 in Cannes, where Mouseler titled the edition “The Great Collapse”, and began by mentioning the BBC series The Great Collapse, about the stress and tensions that exist within of the UK National Health Service. She also mentioned shows like the Netflix hit Inventing Anna, about fraudster Anna Delvey who conned vast sums of money out of New York High Society..

The selection of The Wit in this edition was inspired by stories based on real events, where the consultancy firm also mentioned WeCrashed (Apple TV +), about the collapse of WeWork; The Dropout (Hulu), about the decline and fall of businesswoman Elizabeth Holmes; and Super Pumped: The Battle For Uber (Showtime), about the ouster of controversial Uber founder Travis Kalanick.

In international content, she highlighted the French-Canadian drama How To Survive In the Wild, about a tech startup that claims to have created an app that can communicate with the dead. She also mentioned the dramas Trigger Point (ITV – UK), The Followers (Paramount +) produced by Porta dos Fundos and VIS, about a social media influencer who becomes a serial killer to increase her following.

Likewise, the executive highlighted the Portuguese series Vanda (SIC) and Life is Life and the Spanish series Entrevías, distributed by MediterráneoMediasetEspaña Group.
