Disney+ performance in the CEE market after its debut in these territories past June 14, has ‘exceeded expectations’ according to Kakhaber Abashidze, country manager and media head, The Walt Disney Company Russia & CIS and Central and Eastern Europe.
On a interview for Wirtualne Media, Abashidze reported that countries like Poland had a «remarkable start», where the service reached 1.9 million viewers in its first week. ‘This is clear proof of how extremely attractive Disney+ is in the eyes of our fans and viewers who have waited a long time for its launch’.
The executive assured that the country will have an important role to play into the OTT to achieve its goal of 230-260 million subscribers worldwide by the end of fiscal year 2024.
Abashidze also spoke about the importance of partnerships, highlighting his alliance with Groupa Polsat Plus to drive the expansion of Disney+ in Poland: ‘It is the right company to partner with in a market as competitive as Poland’s’.
Furthermore, the executive revealed that Disney has no intention of closing any of its linear channels in Poland and is in fact working on new projects for these.
