With an enhanced agenda that will focus on the FAST business in America, co-production and investment funds, MIPCancun returns in a new edition from November 14-17, coinciding with its tenth anniversary.
The trade market which is held every year in Cancún, Mexico, is expected with great expectations this year, after the outstanding numbers of attendees in 2022: 825 distributors, buyers, producers and commissioners from 46 countries, exceeding 2019 pre-pandemic levels and represents 83% growth in attendance vs. 2021.
Since before the pandemic, the co-production forum has been one of the main attractions, both for creators who have exciting projects in the pipeline, and for buyers, who continue to attend this market with greater force, guided by their appetite for the newest projects emerging in the Americas.
FAST as a trend
This year, the focus will be on the first Summit dedicated to the FAST business in Latin America and US Hispanic, organized by RX in alliance with Prensario International, which reviews the explosion in FAST channels and programming offers across the region.
The section that will take place on November 14, aims to be a mirror of the format that had its international debut at MIPTV “FAST & GLOBAL Summit”, which drew a 500-strong audience and positive response from attendees last month, attracted by further context and connections within the rapidly growing sector.
Some of the sessions are a demystification conference presented by the consulting firm BB Media; a panel on curation and branding strategies for FAST channels, with the participation of TV Azteca, Pluto TV, and Canela Media. Likewise, Ottera, Samsung Electronics and the Australian VA Media will be other major players that offer their valuable business perspectives at the conferences.
Keynotes with references from the region
On Wednesday the 15th, the two key conferences of the day will be led by Carlos Quintanillas, VP of scripted content at SPL, Anouk Aaron, VP content production at WBD, both will offer their visions regarding original content in the Americas. Likewise, WAWA will celebrate its seventh anniversary and present the Woman of the Year award in the industry.
On Thursday, to offer details of its successful content distribution and production strategy with a mixed focus in Latin America, Nadav Palti, CEO of Dori Media Group, will star in the central daytime keynote. It is followed by the annual MIP diversity and inclusion conference and panels focused on financing and monetizing productions.
On the sidelines, in the conference grounds of the Moon Palace Hotel, the long-awaited spaces dedicated to the co-production business will take place, which will generate connections between investors, buyers and producers or content creators.
‘MIPCancun is more than a market, it is a community 10 years in the making. And major takeaways are that Cancun remains the preferred destination in the Americas for our annual Latam Market and that the 3rd week of November is the best suited date each year for the Latin American and US Hispanic industry calendar. Also that Mexico is now the #1 production hub in the Americas for Spanish-language content where all the major entertainment studios have a presence and that the MIP CANCUN format is irreplicable as the most productive 4 days that defines the year ahead’, said Director of MIPCancun, Maria Perez-Bellière.
