Roxanne J. Barcelona, VP, GMA Network, Worldwide Division.

Between the constant evolution of media and consumer habits, GMA Network remains true to its vision as a pioneer in the region. The Philippine’s leading broadcasting company produces primetime television programs, delivers superior entertainment and responsible and accurate news and information to Filipinos everywhere in the world through its television, radio and online platforms, as well as a wide range of other media-related businesses.

GMA is the leading source of Filipino content worldwide. Its drama series are distributed in more than 40 countries.  It has licensed more than 100 titles worldwide and continues to reach more viewers worldwide through program syndication. Apart from the continued expansion of its reach and the opening of more local stations in the Philippines, content remains the key to staying relevant. As such, its top priority is to deliver fresh, engaging and high quality content to local and international audiences by working with the best talent.

‘Our goal is to maintain our quality by continually investing in state-of-the-art broadcast equipment and creative talent to ensure that our content is enjoyed not only by our estimated 78 million viewers nationwide, but also by our international viewers. We focus on producing content that we broadcast across all of our media platforms to grow and retain audience share’ said Roxanne J. Barcelona, VP, GMA Network, Worldwide Division.

Love Before Sunrise, romance, drama.

Its latest collaborations with other international platforms such as Netflix, Viu and Amazon have made its content available to a wider audience. GMA Network secured a landmark distribution deal to broadcast 492 hours of content, in 42 countries in Africa, making it a major provider of premium Filipino content in the world’s second largest continent. The network also sold 248 hours of content to a major broadcaster, which will air seven of the network’s most acclaimed and top-rated series this year. In total, GMA Network distributed some 1,700 hours of content to various broadcasters and pay-TV and streaming platforms in APAC, Africa and Eastern Europe.

One of the highlights of the company is Love Before Sunrise (35×45′). This romance and drama series tells the story of ex-lovers who accidentally meet again after several years. They regret having lost each other after being trapped in their unhappy marriages. Their situation is complicated when they give in to their rekindled feelings and decide to continue their forbidden love.

Another of the main titles is The Missing Husband (40×45′). It is a drama that follows the story of a man who is the victim of a scam and suddenly disappears. His wife searches for him and ends up discovering that he disappeared on purpose.

They also present The Write One (20×45’). This fantasy-romance drama follows writer Liam, who, using a magic typewriter, reimagines his life, where choices and fate intertwine, questioning the role of destiny in the path to true love.

‘This year, we signed a five-year deal with a leading OTT video streaming service in the region that delivers content to Filipinos. The agreement, which marks the first collaboration between GMA and this streaming platform, makes available new GMA titles starting with “The Write One” and “Love Before Sunrise”. Ten dramas or 345 hours of content will soon be available in MENA through another major streaming service’ said Roxanne J. Barcelona.

‘In 2024, GMA Network plans to expand its presence in the CIS and in MENA. The network’s strategic focus is on syndicating its content to diverse cultures. This move underscores GMA Network’s commitment to providing high-quality content to a global viewership. One key initiative is ensuring that GMA Network’s programs are widely available on various streaming platforms across Asia and the rest of the world.  This approach helps create more awareness of GMA’s content to a wider audience which, in turn, drives GMA’s thriving syndication business. Additionally, GMA Network is actively exploring co-production opportunities with key players in AsiaPac’ added Roxanne J. Barcelona.
