According to K7 Media, the trends of the year are the show with nostalgic elements, remakes, quiz shows with a twist plot, and shows for celebrity enthusiasts.

The first show is Trout Girls Japan, a Japanese adaptation of Korea’s hit singing audition format, Miss Trout, where contestants perform classic songs. The show, which landed in Japan via Abema TV and Wowwow, offers contestants the chance to win 10 million yen and a debut opportunity, emphasizing the enduring appeal of nostalgic music.

Also a spin-off from Thailand’s The Golden Singer, The Golden Singer Stage New Voice, features amateur singers and those returning to the limelight, singing songs from the cassette tape era. The unique format, with ratings competing against established shows, introduces an entertaining twist where viewers can cut contestants off at any moment, creating a sing-along effect among the audience.

K7 Media also delved into unorthodox quiz shows, featuring Fandom from Workpoint TV. This quiz game, it’s a revival of Superfan, focuses on celebrity enthusiasts battling in a survival quiz. Divided into three segments, including a three-second speed round and a picture round, Fandom has gained substantial popularity, with half a million viewers tuning in to the first episode on YouTube within a month of its debut.

Meanwhile, From Japan, Yoshimoto’s 100-Choice Quiz introduced a budget-friendly yet hilarious quiz show. Contestants answer a single question from 100 possible answers, enduring challenges to reduce the options. Challenges range from eating vinegar-soaked ramen to engaging in funny brawls. The show aims to combine everyday items with humorous elements, promising both entertainment and laughter.

‘These series represent just a glimpse of the diverse and innovative formats emerging in the Asian entertainment industry. From nostalgic singing competitions to unconventional quiz shows, Asian broadcasters and producers continue to push creative boundaries, providing audiences with fresh and engaging content. As we move into 2024, the integration of advanced technology, as seen in AI-themed shows, promises even more groundbreaking entertainment experiences’, concluded Lin.
