TelevisaUnivision Reaches $1.3B in Q2 Revenue

TelevisaUnivision reported a 10% increase in consolidated total revenue, reaching $1.3 billion for the second quarter of 2026. The latest financial results highlight a sharp contrast between a surging Mexican market and a contracting U.S. segment, heavily influenced by the FIFA World Cup and the continued expansion of the company’s streaming platform, ViX.

Daniel Alegre

The company’s top-line growth was largely anchored by its operations in Mexico, where total revenue jumped 53% to $605 million (or 41% excluding a favorable foreign exchange impact). Mexican advertising revenue saw a robust 23% increase to $353 million, driven directly by the FIFA World Cup.

Conversely, the U.S. market faced headwinds. Total U.S. revenue decreased by 11% to $722 million, dragged down by a steep 29% decline in advertising revenue, which fell to $323 million. The company attributed this drop to cyclical business softness resulting from competitive sports programming.

Addressing the company’s performance, Daniel Alegre, CEO of TelevisaUnivision, stated: ‘TelevisaUnivision delivered solid second-quarter financial results, driven by the record-breaking success of our FIFA World Cup coverage. The tournament reinforced why soccer is a cornerstone of our strategy and why we are the “Home of Soccer” for Hispanics’.

Alegre also emphasized the company’s strategic positioning for the coming months: ‘Combined with our unique connection to our audience and the importance of our platforms heading into the U.S. election cycle, this momentum positions us well to drive sustained profitability while creating even greater value for our audiences, advertisers, and partners’.

A major catalyst for the quarter was the subscription and licensing division, which grew 40% globally to $621 million. This surge was bolstered by approximately $90 million generated from sublicensing FIFA World Cup rights to other Spanish-speaking Latin American countries.

The expansion of ViX’s premium tier also played a critical role across both territories: Mexico, where the subscription and licensing revenue skyrocketed by 157% to $245 million, fueled by strong content licensing and ViX premium growth. And United States, where revenue in this segment grew 8% to $377 million, supported by ViX premium, higher average rates, and a strategic partnership with Hulu Live TV.

Despite the revenue milestones, operating expenses rose 16% to $940 million, primarily due to sports costs tied to the FIFA World Cup. This resulted in a 3% decrease in Adjusted OIBDA, which settled at $388 million, while operating income fell by $17 million to $224 million.

On the balance sheet, TelevisaUnivision showcased proactive financial management. The company successfully refinanced approximately $1.4 billion of debt, issuing $1.5 billion in new Senior Secured Notes due 2033 to retire its 2028 maturities. The company ended the quarter with $766 million in cash and improved its leverage ratio (net debt to OIBDA) to 5.5x, down from 5.7x in the previous quarter.
