The companies grouped under the umbrella of Animation From Spain will have a prominent presence during the next edition of MIFA in the framework of the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France. Networking activities, matchmaking sessions, panel industry and several nominated contents in the different categories of the Festival show the weight of Spanish animation in this new edition.
Several activities will reinforce the Spanish presence during the next edition of MIFA at the International Animation Film Festival of Annecy, France. With a total of 60 Spanish companies registered and more than 100 delegates representing the best of animation in our country, this new edition of MIFA promises to be something to talk about.
Within this framework, there are several activities organized that are worth to be scheduled in order to know the latest news of the sector.

– Spanish Women in Animation: Thursday, June 13 / 10:45am (Room Haendel, 5th floor)
– Networking meeting with the Brazilian delegation: Thursday, June 13 / 5:00pm (Brazilian Content Stand, C.20)
BREAKFAST: MATCHMAKING SPACE (TELEFILM CANADA & ICEX – SPAIN)
This closed breakfast meeting will take place on Wednesday, June 12 from 9 to 11 am. Up to 40 participants will be able to attend (20 Canadian and 20 Spanish participants), during which meetings will be held between companies from both countries to facilitate co-production options. A total of 27 Canadian and 30 Spanish companies have applied.
The activity is also organized as a continuation of a series of activities that promote the rapprochement between the Spanish and Canadian sectors. This was the case on May 24, when a Webinar was organized between Spain and Canada, with the participation of Ken Proulx, Director, Partnership & Export of Telefilm Canada and Carmen Jordán, Director of Creative Industries of ICEX, Verónica Buide, president of the Association of Women in the Animation Industry (MIA) and Constance Richard, Consultant and Supervisor of the RDVCANADA I Animations Program.
THE SPANISH ANIMATION INDUSTRY IN THE SPOTLIGHT
Also on Wednesday, June 12, from 4pm to 5:15pm, there will be an activity to discover through a content showcase the different novelties of the Spanish animation industry. The objective is also to analyze opportunities for rapprochement and co-production with Spain. Among the contents that will be shown are details about El Sueño de la Sultana, directed by Isa Herguera and produced by Diego Herguera, Mariposas Negras, directed by David Baute and produced by Edmon Roch, and Rock Bottom, produced by Alba Sotorra and directed by María Trenor, the first female director in official competition. In addition, it is worth noting that Rock Bottom participated in the first Pitch session of Women in Animation from Spain organized at ICEX/ICAA in 2022.
María Trénor’s film will participate in the Official Competition Section, while David Baute and Isabel Herguera’s films will be screened in the Contrechamp section.
Participating in this special session will be: Isabel Herguera, director, screenwriter, producer and art director of Sultana Films, Diego Herguera Acosta, Producer of Sultana Films, Edmon Roch, Producer of Ikiru Films, Daysi Cruz Cid, director in Business Development of Morgana VFX & Motion, Carlos F. De Vigo, CEO & founder of DR. Platypus & Ms. Wombat, Álvaro García González, executive and development producer of Hampa Studio, Alba Sotorra Clua, producer of Alba Sotorra Cinema Productions, María Trénor, director of Alba Sotorra Cinema Productions, and Carolina López Caballero, moderator of the session and director of the ANIMAC Festival.
At the end of the session there will be a cocktail for the speakers and part of the attendees at the Terrasse Salon Impérial.

The following Spanish projects are also in competition in different categories this year:
– El cambio de rueda (The change of The Wheel) by Begoña Arostegui and produced by Ferdydurke Films (Category: Perspectives)
– Etorriko da (When It Comes) by director Izibene Oñederra Aramendi (Category: Official Short Film Competition)
– Alice Diary’s with Hampa Studio in co-production (Category: TV Films)
– Olivia and the Invisible Earthquake by Irene Iborra (Citoplasmas Stopmotion and Cornelius Films), out of competition in the Work in Progress section.
In the Annecy Presents section, Juan (Galo) Galocha and Pedro Solís will premiere their film Buffalo Kids.
WOMEN IN ANIMATION FROM SPAIN
During the morning of Thursday, June 13 from 10:45am to 12:00pm there will be a presentation of the projects selected to participate in the activity called Women In Animation From Spain, a special activity in which six projects led by women from the main Spanish animation companies will be presented in search of international partners for co-production.
The selected projects, in order of presentation will be:
