MIP London: Korea’s format showcase unveils AI-powered productions and new dramas

The Korea Format Showcase at MIP London, organized by KOCCA, featured a range of scripted and non-scripted formats, with a strong emphasis on artificial intelligence and genre variety, during the second day of the market.

Studio Meta-K focused on AI-driven production methods, cited cost reduction as a key factor in adopting the technology. CEO Kim Kwang Jibn noted that K-drama production costs have tripled in the last three years and that integrating AI tools—such as digital doubles, game engines, deepfake, and generative AI—has made production more efficient. He also introduced the company’s “Season” project, which features AI-generated virtual music artists inspired by the four seasons.

Among Studio Meta-K’s featured formats were Competition for Queen’s Throne, a historical musical romantic comedy based on a web novel; Grand Master Hani Park, a fantasy series with a dimensional shift concept; and Wave of Fate, a thriller.

Sangsang Band presented Monster Space, a science factual format that examines locations around the world with violent or ominous histories, such as concentration camps and suicide forests.

Studio CR showcased Nanny Online: Flower Kids Project, a global parenting communication format utilizing collective intelligence, along with Park Your Prize, a game show where participants navigate parking challenges and quiz questions for a cash prize.

Apollo Pictures introduced Time Traveler: Timeless Legacy, a drama about a man searching for the key to his grandmother’s will who encounters a time traveler and is transported to the 1930s. Boda Media Group also presented House of Crime, a factual series focusing on animal crime, rescue, and rights.

HiGround, known for Divorce Attorney Shin, highlighted historical drama Flower Blooming on a Blade, a Korean adaptation of The Good Place, occult horror Vigilatio: Awakening, and drama-comedy The Age of Filiarch.

Meanwhile, BigHouse Entertainment featured formats including children’s survival show The Little Summit, music and travel reality series Symphony on the Road, and the third season of gastronomy documentary Royal Table.

Imaginus showed Fausters, a sci-fi thriller; Madame Jade, a historical fiction drama; and Romance Scam, a drama-thriller-exposé.

AStory’s lineup included Idol + I, a thriller about a K-pop idol accused of murder; The Badge Brother: Bounty Hunter, an action-comedy; 340 Days, a fantasy-romance; and Riki, a period drama centered on wrestling.
