ORF: documentaries at its best

ORF Enterprises (Austria) continues to bring some of the best European documentaries of wildlife, nature, history, as well as high quality, action series to the marketplace. At Digital MIPTV, the company bet especially on it three brand-new, 4K-produced and 52-minutes documentaries.

In this magical and evocative film, Water of Life (’52)follows the stories of a special cast of animal characters whose lives are closely entwined with the Scottish Highlands, an island distillery, and the mountain rivers that feed it. Alongside their lives we see a batch of whisky making its journey from barley, yeast and water to liquid gold.

King of the Taiga is a cinematic journey following the giant Siberian tiger as it crosses the taiga forests to find new territory. Until recently on the edge of extinction, Siberian tigers are now protected at the highest levels and are flourishing. And The Salt Saga – White Gold of the Alps is a history piece that put the tiny community of Hallstatt at the heart of an international trade network. This filmic journey investigates the lives of the people of Hallstatt and explores the central role women played in the prehistoric salt mines and society in general.

On the series side, there are two proposal to global buyers:  Soko Kitzbuehel (257x’45), a long-running hit show is built around a dynamic young team of investigators that constantly encounters extremely baffling murder cases that occur in the picturesque town of Kitzbuehel and its alpine surroundings. It also features a gourmet chef full of bright ideas, a countess well acquainted with the jet-set lifestyle, and on top of that, it comes with a large portion of humor. The result is a witty and exciting detective series of a very special kind!

And new episodes of the classic police series Fast Forward (60x’45 or 4x’90) about a mid-thirties, divorced single mother and successful investigator at Vienna’s criminal investigation department. The good-looking young woman masters the balancing act between her job and parental duties with humor. Angelica Fast knows what she wants and always keeps the facts in sight.
