TV Azteca restructures international division

At the closing of the LA Screenings Independents 2026, pas month, TV Azteca announced two key moves designed to accelerate its international expansion: a new phase for its global distribution division, now led by Karina Montoya as the new VP of Distribution, and the launch of a remote production services hub initially focused on the United States and Latin America.

During a press briefing, Adrián Ortega Echegoyen, General Director of Content at TV Azteca, explained that the company is seeking a much deeper integration between its powerful content machinery and its international business. Under this new framework, both Ortega and Alejandro Chávez, Director of Programming, will take a more active role in client negotiations to bring to the global market the execution and expertise that turned TV Azteca into one of Mexico’s leading players.

The group currently operates four FTA networks, nine pay-TV channels, and a growing digital division, where it has been strengthening its presence in FAST channels. The appointment of Montoya, who previously worked in programming and acquisitions, responds precisely to this vision: adding an executive with extensive experience as a buyer who will now be «on the other side of the counter.»

In terms of content, TV Azteca produces four fiction series per year, equivalent to more than 200 hours, while its main network, Azteca Uno, maintains an entirely live programming lineup. This structure allows the company to develop realities, talk shows, musical formats, and daily entertainment with strong export potential. Furthermore, this is a strategic year for sports content, with Azteca 7 positioned as a primary vehicle for World Cup coverage, supported by exclusive agreements with Disney and various Mexican football clubs.

The new remote production hub is led by Julián Antuñano, an executive with 25 years at the company. The objective is to provide international production companies and partners with more cost-effective, time-saving, and operationally efficient solutions, while also driving the creation of FAST channels and new formats for third parties.

Operating under an end-to-end model, the division integrates specialized talent, technical equipment, and advanced technological infrastructure to develop audiovisual projects efficiently, scalably, and adaptably to market needs. Its approach covers everything from strategic diagnosis and operational model definition to technical integration, seamless transitions, and ongoing operations.

This strategy will also enable TV Azteca to offer optimization and modernization services for pre-existing channels by incorporating Latin American talent, highly efficient production models, and centralized real-time supervision and direction processes. This framework guarantees high availability, agile coverage from any location, and optimized content for each platform, expanding the company’s footprint in the global market.

Additionally, the hub incorporates playout capabilities, multi-channel delivery, continuous monitoring, and operational scalability, allowing for the constant evolution of audiovisual projects in an increasingly dynamic global environment.
