Annecy/MIFA 2023: a rich (and cross-regional) experience about animation
Both the Annecy Festival and its market MIFA, are very active this week, about business meetings, networking and market trends with the conferences. One unusual tip for the tradition of the event: attending people could hear Spanish-speaking visitors almost at all times at the 6 halls of the convention, due to Mexico as the guest country and bringing big names like Guillermo del Toro, who caught the main attention of the attendance yesterday.

Cécile Lacoue, director of Studies at CNC —Center National Du Cinema et L’Image et L’Image Animée— shared a research about the animation market with focus on financing and distribution trends in France and international, highlighting a natural decline in the animation production in 2022 compared to 2021. ‘During the hard pandemic, animation was a priority because it didn’t need actors like fiction to be played. After the pandemic, more options appeared. But above all, animation must solve costs and process challenges to continue improving its production’.
