Amazon MGM: «The Handmaid’s Tale» returns for its final season

Amazon MGM Studios is presenting a diverse portfolio at MIPCOM 2024, showcasing a blend of new productions and well-established franchises. The studio, known for its Hollywood print, highlights company’s efforts to balance new adaptations of classic works with original formats, aiming to attract a broad audience.

One of the standouts in the 2024 catalog is Earth Abides, an adaptation of George R. Stewart’s sci-fi novel. The story follows a small group of survivors in a world ravaged by a global pandemic, starring Alexander Ludwig (Vikings) and Jessica Frances Dukes (Ozark), which is set to airing on MGM+ on December 1.

Another key title is the much-anticipated final season of The Handmaid’s Tale. As one of the most critically acclaimed series of the last decade, that it returns to continue the story of Offred, portrayed by Elisabeth Moss. The dystopian drama, based on Margaret Atwood’s novel, has captivated audiences with its dark vision of a totalitarian society, and the final chapter is set to premiere on Hulu in Spring 2025.

Also The Consultant, starring Christoph Waltz, a thriller with a dark comedic edge that explores power dynamics in the corporate world. It aired on Prime Video and stands out for its compelling portrayal of the manipulative relationships between employees and their superiors.

In the unscripted category, the revival of Gladiators marks Amazon MGM’s return to large-scale entertainment formats. The UK version has already proven successful on BBC One, and American and French adaptations are in production. Another notable unscripted title is Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?, a fresh take on the original quiz show format. The new series, hosted by NFL star Travis Kelce, features celebrities helping contestants answer elementary-level questions for a prize.

Lastly, The GOAT, a format that sees reality TV stars competing in challenges to win the title of Greatest of All Time. Hosted by Daniel Tosh, this show capitalizes on the growing demand for competition-based reality content.
