Amuz Distribution, the Quebec-based company dedicated to great comedy, scripted and unscripted content, expands its mission to also help create originals and sell broadcast-ready content, securing and leveraging all rights and taking a 360 approach to content. This year at ATF 2023, the company led by Alex Avon celebrates the rebranding of ComediHa! Distribution (CHD) after 25 years as a leader in the comedy field.
Starting with the launch of the new brand in May 2023, Amuz Distribution acquired Larry and Counter Offer, along with format licensing agreements with We Make and Gaumont. In July of this year, the company announced a deal with Gaumont for a Mexican remake of the comedy series The Writers Block. It recently announced a deal for a French remake with We Make Producciones for its show In Lieu of Flowers. They also announced a deal with Tucker Tooley Productions in Los Angeles for a remake of the entertainment comedy series The Boys.
In September of this year, the company won the award for best screenplay at both the Prix Gémeaux in Canada and the Festival de la Fiction de La Rochelle in France. In October under the framework of Mipcom 2023, it won an award for About Antoine, in the category of best «Representation of disability – screenplay».
With the intention of expanding into Asia, Amuz Distribution will attend ATF 2023, where it will present its new titles: About Antoine (20×30′), an uplifting story of love and family inspired by true events that triumphs over limitations. Authenticity, sensitivity and humor explore life with a disabled poly child; Anyway (30×30′), an award-nominated comedy depicting the loving, stormy and genuinely funny relationship between a mother and her two adult children living in the big city; Counter Offer (48×30′), a four-season comedy that tells the story of Lavesque, a family-run agency trying to survive the unpredictable real estate industry.
Also, they present Larry (10×60;), a drama following a former undercover cop with a tarnished reputation who becomes a security guard with an injured wife who tries to improve his situation; Snowball Effect (25×30′), a comedy in which Simon becomes the mascot of a popular party and, disguised as a friendly snowman, employs underhanded methods to become the best snowman of all time. Finally, Writer’s Block (22×60′), a comedy series that follows two TV show runners who experience creative failure and try to acquire authentic criminal experiences that lead them into trouble.
Amuz Distribution plans to continue acquiring new comedies, dramedies and distributing award-winning programs in 2024.
