Atresmedia is going through an extraordinary present: for more than 26 consecutive months, the company has been the audience leader in Spanish television. This year, 2024, has begun with great ratings successes, and a few weeks ago it premiered its latest telenovela, Sueños de Libertad, which became the best fiction premiere in two years, beating its competitors by four points.
In terms of streaming, Atresplayer continues to consolidate its position year after year, becoming the Spanish platform of reference. This leadership is based on a careful strategy that focuses on the creation of quality, innovative and diverse content, which makes its catalogue of content unique and internationally recognized.
‘Our philosophy and essence differentiate us from our direct competitors, not only in terms of quality but also in terms of relevance, variety of content and commitment to new entertainment content, fiction, documentaries, true crimes, etc.’ says Juan Ignacio Jiménez Gargantilla, director of acquisitions, sales and distribution at Atresmedia.
Atreplayer ended 2023 as the Spanish platform that has premiered the most national series. This is a revealing figure as it shows the group’s great commitment to its streaming platform. Among its successful content, Atresplayer‘s original series Déjate Ver, a comedy by Álvaro Carmona that keeps receiving national and international recognition, such as at Berlinale and Series Manía, stand out.
‘The strategy we have followed is to add to the great catalogue of Atresmedia productions a series of original content that can only be seen in Spain on our platform, Atresplayer’ add Juan Ignacio Jiménez Gargantilla.
Last year, Atresplayer produced and premiered more than a dozen original series, all with different themes and genres, including: UPA Next, Las noches de Tefía, Zorras, Martita!, Déjate ver, Camilo Superstar and Vestidas de Azul. All these titles are in addition to the wide range of exclusive content: programs, series or documentaries whose digital premiere is prior and special for subscribers, before their broadcast on television.
In addition, this 2024 comes loaded with a list of new premieres, including: Red flags, a teen drama created by the writer of The Age of Wrath, Nando Lopez; and A Muerte, the new romantic comedy by Daniel de la Orden.
‘The form of consumption marks the new content trends. Streaming platforms have revolutionized the audiovisual industry, influencing not only the type of content produced but also its form: shorter seasons, powerful stories and global themes. That is why we at Atresmedia continue working to create and offer diverse, relevant and quality content such as Las noches de Tefía, Camilo Superstar or the true crime No se lo digas a nadie‘ comment Juan Ignacio Jiménez Gargantilla. ‘In addition, we have returned with a higher level of production to classic formats such as telenovelas. An example of this is the recently released «Sueños de Libertad», which has been very well received not only on free-to-air television, but also on streaming’.
In its linear channels, in addition to news programs and afternoon soap operas, Atresmedia highlights entertainment programs for the whole family, such as El Hormiguero, which always has a loyal daily audience; and talent reality shows, such as El Desafío, which has led prime-time audiences and is currently preparing its fifth season. In March, the company dismissed Amar es para siempre, after more than 2,800 episodes and 12 years of uninterrupted broadcasting. The launch of its new soap opera, Sueños de Libertad, has become the best fiction premiere in two years, being the most-watched series on television.
In terms of streaming, in addition to mentioning the good performance of Sueños de Libertad on deferred, the company has observed a positive trend in terms of number of subscriptions and audience when original series premieres and previews of open content on Atresplayer take place.
‘The main challenge we face in 2024 is to continue to be leaders while maintaining our essence. After all, this is what differentiates us from the competition and what makes our content continue to be valued and recognized year after year, both nationally and internationally. For the last two years, we have not only been audience leaders in Spain, but we have also managed to make our catalogue travel. We are present in more than 190 countries and our titles are increasingly recognized and valued by clients, audiences and critics all over the world’ closes Jiménez Gargantilla.
