Beta Film’s ‘Atlantic Crossing’ landed at ORF and Movistar+

Beta Film has sold the prestigious WWII drama series Atlantic Crossing with Kyle MacLachlan and Sofia Helin to Austria’s national public broadcaster ORF and Spanish Movistar+, which will premier in both countries later this year.

Based on true events, Atlantic Crossing offers a unique and never-before-seen perspective on the tragic events of World War II circling around the untold story of the Norwegian Crown Princess becoming an influential figure in world politics. It has been directed by Alexander Eik, produced by Cinenord in co-production with Beta Film for NRK and MASTERPIECE. As co-producer, Beta Film handles international distribution.

The seriespremiered last week on the American national broadcaster PBS in its flagship anthology MASTERPIECE, beating the competitors NBC and Fox. The series currently ranks # 4 at the worldwide top 10 iTunes shows, according to Flixpatrol. It is one of the biggest Scandinavian productions to date and stars Golden Globe winning and twice Emmy-nominated legendary actor Kyle MacLachlan (Twin Peaks,) as Franklin D. Roosevelt alongside multi-awarded Swedish actress Sofia Helin (The Bridge) as Norwegian Crown Princess Märtha and Tobias Santelmann (The Last Kingdom) as her husband.

Atlantic Crossing celebrates ongoing successes throughout Europe. In the Nordic countries Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden, as well as in Eastern Europe, Atlantic Crossing aired on prime-time slots, breaking records and fascinating the European viewership. The series also enjoyed great attention on the SVOD platforms Magenta TV in Germany and Streamz in Belgium and will be launched in France, Italy and numerous Eastern European countries soon.

Filmed in English and Norwegian, it celebrated its world premiere in competition at the international TV festival Canneseries in October last year at France’s Cote d’Azur.
