The narrative is set at the end of the Duan Dynasty, where a 300-year-old covenant between the royal Muyun family and the Muru family is shattered by a prophecy. The prediction warns that the state will fall into disorder if the sixth prince, Muyun Sheng, takes the sword, while foretelling that Muru Hanjiang is destined to become the future emperor. This instability leads local forces, represented by Muyun Luan and Muyun De, to conspire with dark forces to seize power.

The series follows intricate character arcs amidst this chaos. Crown Prince Muyun Sheng is depicted as a figure indifferent to power, willing to sacrifice his position for true love. In contrast, Muru Hanjiang, born into nobility but raised among the common people, seeks to protect order while valuing freedom. Parallel to these storylines is the journey of Shuofeng Heye, who evolves from an avenger into the King of Tieqin after surviving the loss of his people and the brutality of war.
