The International Series Festival of Canneswelcomes international talents and recognizes the originality of productions, from April 5 to 10 at the Palais des Festivals. During its second day, Globo presented at the Lumiere Auditorium, the first two episodes of Living on a Razor’s Edge (8×45′), in the presence of showrunner Jose Junior, screenwriter Alex Medeiros, lead director Andre Felipe Binder, director and actor Julio Andrade and actress Elen Clarice.
Living on a Razor’s Edge is the first Brazilian show selected for Canneseries 2024. It is a classic biographical production that, with great delicacy and meticulous direction, paints the portrait of a key political figure in the history of that country: Herbert de Souza, also known as Betinho, a communist activist persecuted by the military dictatorship during the 60s and 70s, and forced into exile.
After eight years of political exile imposed by the Brazilian military dictatorship, sociologist Herbert de Souza returns to his homeland. Together with democracy activists, he confronts the advent of AIDS and brings the devastating impact of hunger into focus. Overcoming his fragile health and personal tragedy, he creates the largest social awareness campaign in Brazilian history.
The series reveals a little-known personal side of the activist, based on a family plot at the center of the narrative, threaded through historical events. Living on a Razor’s Edgealso delves into the legacy and representativeness of the honoree, who not only played a key role in taking Brazil off the hunger map, but also inspired a number of other social projects.
The cast includes names such as Humberto Carrão (All The Flowers), Leandra Leal (Justice: Life Is Not Fair), Andreia Horta (VidasAjenas), Ravel Andrade (Aruanas), Walderez de Barros (Éramos Seis), Michel Gomes and SirleaAleixo.
Living on a Razor’s Edge was also the only Brazilian production selected for the tenth edition of the Berlinale Series Market.
