Centauro: the film ’40 days lost in the jungle’

Gustavo Nieto Roa, filmmaker and president of Centauro Comunicaciones.

Nieto Roa will launch a new film based on the true story of four children who survived a plane crash in the jungle between Caquetá and Guaviare in Colombia, where their mother tragically died. The executive, who has over 50 years of experience, is collaborating with screenwriter Idania Velásquez Luna and producer Laura Fernández on this project.

Amaira (13), Kametsa (9), Ika (4), and Bena (11 months old) are from the indigenous communities living in the Amazon jungles of southern Colombia. They never imagined that the flight they took with their mother, Yurima, would lead to the most challenging experience of their childhood. Faced with torrential downpours, scorching sun, endless treks, freezing nights, wild animals, and the dense jungle, they were embraced by the very wilderness that tested their survival instincts and resilience.

Despite their exhaustion and confusion, Amaira took charge, guiding and supporting her three younger siblings. Following their mother’s death in the crash, she urged them to find their way back home without losing hope. Amaira’s leadership and the siblings’ unity gave them the strength to hold onto the hope of being found alive and miraculously surviving the ordeal.

The film, titled *40 Days Lost in the Jungle*, was shot throughout August 2023. The project was inspired by the real-life «Operation Hope,» a survival story that captured the attention of Colombia and the world after the media reported the children’s rescue. Nieto Roa and his team recognized that this remarkable story had all the elements needed for a compelling cinematic adaptation.
