The globally popular children’s brand CoComelon is making a significant leap from screens to cinemas, with Universal Pictures securing a deal for the franchise’s first-ever feature film. The upcoming computer-generated (CG) animated movie, slated for a theatrical release in 2027, will be produced by DreamWorks Animation and feature animation services from DNEG.

The film promises a brand-new adventure for JJ and his friends, expanding on the beloved narratives of the CoComelon series. This theatrical venture represents a major strategic move for the brand, which has already grown substantially beyond its massive YouTube origins. CoComelon has successfully ventured into a Netflix original series, launched a live stage show titled CoComelon LIVE! JJ’s Journey (which premiered in 2021), and developed an extensive consumer products program.
The deal was secured by Moonbug Entertainment, the company behind CoComelon, in partnership with Flywheel Media. Flywheel Media was co-founded by Don McGregor, a former NBCUniversal executive, and producer Dan Chuba. The firm’s recent projects also include The Angry Birds 3.
