Croatian A1 Telekom’s strategic alliances boost digital TV and streaming business

A1 Group COO, Alejandro Plater.

A1 Telekom has been making significant strides in its television strategy, transitioning from traditional pay-TV operations to offering a more digital environment with a wider range of solutions for its television customers. The company has expanded its business and has become a strong investor as a content aggregator through its A1 Xplore TV set-top box. It has also developed solutions within the streaming and OTT spectrum.

After recently partnering with XroadMedia to enhance its A1 Xplore TV service with personalized recommendations, the company is using AI to deliver tailored content suggestions to users based on their viewing habits and preferences. The service, available in Austria, Bulgaria, Slovenia, and Croatia, has allowed the company to continue exploring these areas.

That’s why recently they partnered with Appear to optimize its live OTT channel encoding and distribution workflow. By migrating to Appear‘s NEO Series server-based transcoding platform, A1 Croatia can now deliver over 300 high-capacity live channels to any device or platform across the region. This transition to an all-IP OTT distribution model has yielded significant benefits for A1 Croatia, including improved cost efficiency, scalability, and reduced energy costs. Vedran Krhač, Head of TV and Video Services at A1 Croatia, praised the NEO Series’ ease of integration and Appear’s support team for ensuring a seamless migration process.

Derived from this partnership, A1 Telekom Austria Group has also strengthened its content offering through a multi-year partnership with Netflix, where the streaming giant is now available in six Central and Eastern European territories, including Austria, North Macedonia, Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia , and Slovenia through tv offer.

This partnership provides A1 customers with access to Netflix‘s extensive library of films and series through the Xplore TV Box, alongside other popular streaming services like YouTube, Prime Video, and Canal+. A1 Group CEO Alejandro Plater expressed his satisfaction with the successful launch, highlighting the improved streaming offering for customers and the seamless integration of Netflix into their existing TV platform.

Other innovations in the streaming spectrum were announced by A1 Group‘s International Business division which expanded its portfolio with a white-label OTT platform in the Cloud, powered by UniqCast IPTV/OTT technology. This platform caters to operators, broadcasters, and content owners, offering a comprehensive solution that includes content from over 60 international premium channels.

This strategic partnership with UniqCast allows A1 to leverage its expertise in IPTV/OTT/DVB solutions and its track record of successful deployments globally. The white-label model empowers operators to customize their services with unique branding, content offerings, and pricing, catering to diverse customer needs. A1’s pay-as-you-grow model further enhances accessibility, making the platform suitable for operators of all sizes.
