Disney Latin America: high profile studio slate

Disney Entertainment Latin America is presenting at MIPCOM a film catalog structured around contemporary fiction and flagship feature releases from its premier studio brands: Pixar Animation Studios, Marvel Studios, and Walt Disney Animation Studios.

Leading the animated offering is Pixar’s Elemental. Directed by Peter Sohn and featuring the voice talents of Leah Lewis and Mamoudou Athie, the film is set in Element City, an urban metropolis where fire, water, land, and air residents coexist. The narrative centers on Ember, a quick-witted and fiery young woman, and Wade, an empathetic, go-with-the-flow water guy, whose unlikely bond challenges deep-seated social divisions within the city. The filmgenerated over $496 million at the global box office following an extraordinary theatrical run driven by sustained word-of-mouth, subsequently establishing itself as a top-performing title across global digital and streaming windows.

From Marvel Studios, the company is highlighting the superhero feature The Marvels, directed by Nia DaCosta. Starring Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, and Iman Vellani alongside Samuel L. Jackson, the film expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe by uniting Carol Danvers (Captain Marvel), Captain Monica Rambeau, and Kamala Khan (Ms. Marvel). The plot is set in motion when an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary entangles their light-based powers, causing the three heroes to involuntarily swap physical locations whenever they deploy their abilities. Produced with large-scale visual effects and multi-planetary environments, the cosmic team-up offers buyers an action-driven tentpole with established cross-franchise audience recognition.

Rounding out the studio slate is Walt Disney Animation Studios’ musical feature Wish, developed as a centerpiece release commemorating the studio’s 100-year legacy. Directed by Academy Award winner Chris Buck (Frozen) and Fawn Veerasunthorn, the film stars Ariana DeBose as Asha and Chris Pine as King Magnifico, supported by an original soundtrack from Julia Michaels and Benjamin Rice. Set in the Kingdom of Rosas, the story follows Asha, an idealistic 17-year-old whose powerful plea to the night sky summons a cosmic sphere of energy named Star, prompting her to challenge the kingdom’s ruler who controls the people’s unfulfilled dreams.
