Ecuavisa Studios arrives at MIP London and Content Europe 2026 with a concrete case study for international investors: the granting of Ecuador’s first Audiovisual Investment Certificate (CIA). The tax incentive was awarded to the film Perros, Pelos y Películas, a romantic comedy co-produced with US-based 360Powwow, marking the operational launch of Ecuador’s new fiscal support scheme for the screen industries.
The company is using this milestone to position itself as the primary local partner for foreign production companies looking to access the benefit, which allows for a rebate of up to 37% on costs and expenses incurred within Ecuadorian territory for audiovisual and logistical services.
The mechanism, approved by the Sectoral Committee of the Cinematographic and Audiovisual Industry (COSICA) under the Law for Digital and Audiovisual Transformation, was applied for the first time to Perros, Pelos y Películas. The project is headlined by Ecuadorian actor Danilo Carrera and directed by Gabriela Tagliavini, known for her work on Tequila Repasado (Sony Studios/Amazon).
The production brings together key figures in the Spanish-language content market, including Javier Szerman (former Head of Originals at Amazon) as executive producer and screenwriter Marcela Citterio.
The project represents a strategic alliance between Ecuavisa and 360Powwow. The Miami-based company, which has a track record with TelevisaUnivision and ViX—including the 2025 prime-time hit Código de Investigación—joins as a co-producer, validating the feasibility of the incentive for international players.
Ana Cecilia Alvarado, CEO of Ecuavisa Studios, described the issuance of the first certificate as a signal that the country is ready to integrate into the global entertainment map. ‘With the CIA, Ecuador moves from being a spectator to assuming a leading role in the global audiovisual industry’, stated.
The executive emphasized that while locations are important, ‘clear incentives, agile processes, and trained talent’ are required to attract large-scale productions. Ecuavisa Studios aims to act as a catalyst in this ecosystem, facilitating the entry of international investment through its infrastructure and legal know-how regarding the new tax framework.
‘Fiscal incentives are the starting point for building production hubs that connect territories and audiences’, Alvarado added, noting the broader economic impact on tourism, hospitality, and technical services.
