The production arm of the public broadcaster buys a majority stake in the renowned French animation studio.
Recently, the company commented that is looking to build a creative hub in the south of France for its strong base of animation talent. Currently, the division produces around 1,500 hours of content annually for France Televisions channels and platforms, focused on live action programs for older audiences and documentaries.
France Télévisions is interested in developing more advanced production technologies and techniques for the national film industry, so Dwarf‘s knowledge and experience in real-time animation was an important factor in the acquisition.
DwarfAnimation specializes in real-time CG animation, and gained popularity producing major series for Netflix (My Dad the Bounty Hunter) and Disney+ (Monsters at Work). Following the acquisition, the production company will continue to be creatively independent and plans to expand its pre-production facilities and storyboarding and visual development capabilities.
Olivier Pinol, founder and president of Dwarf, will continue to lead the studio, which is 13 years old and has a team of 26 permanent employees.
