Globo: new top series, but also great docs

At MIPCOM 2024, Globo is showcasing a dynamic portfolio of series, documentaries, and telenovelas, further solidifying its presence in the international media market. Among the production offers is the Globoplay Original O jogo que mudou a História. Created by José Junior, the series explores the rise of drug factions in Rio de Janeiro over the last 40 years.

According to Pablo Ghiglione, head of International Co-productions, the company’s portfolio is designed to meet various market needs, blending action, suspense, and classic stories. ‘We’ve prepared a lineup that shows our versatility’, Ghiglione explains, highlighting their strategic focus on format sales.

Another notable title is the documentary Rio-Paris: The Tragedy of Flight 447, which reconstructs the tragic 2009 Air France crash. The documentary offers a meticulous examination of how technological failures and procedural errors led to the crash, impacting global aviation safety.

In addition, the company continues to promote scripted and unscripted format sales, including Crazy about You, a telenovela currently airing on TV Globo. The narrative follows the friendship between two young women entangled in a love quadrangle, set against a backdrop of intrigue and rivalry. ‘Our format sales model is a way to merge our DNA with local production’, Ghiglione says, underscoring the adaptability of their content.

Globo’s portfolio also includes Rebirth, a new telenovela written by Bruno Luperi, and several Globoplay Originals like Rensga Hits and Anti-Kidnapping Unit.
