Since the appointment of Mikaela Pérez as the head of sales for LatAm, Spain and US Hispanic by the end of 2021, GoQuest Media (India) has reinforced its position in those regions and started to expand its content catalogue pan regionally.
‘It’s been a very exciting time for us these past six months as we started dubbing some of our limited- series which are now available in FlixLatino: Traitor (6x’58) produced by Elisa for the national Estonian channel ERR, and the thriller Civil Servant (S1: 12×50’ & S2: 12×50’) from Telekom Srbija and Cine Danas’, said Pérez, interviewed by Prensario for this MIPTV edition.
Regarding the distribution content, the ‘excitement and interest’ from clients to explore content produced in Europe ‘have been great’, she remarked. ‘We are now working with broadcasters in Latin America to bring these thrilling dramas to free to air channels, which will allow us to understand the interest that’s generated from audiences when it comes to content produced for platforms and shot in locations such as Serbia, Estonia, India, Czech Republic, and Montenegro for example’, mentioned Pérez.
Apart from distribution, one of the goals is being able to partner with local production companies, producers, streaming platforms, scriptwriters, and broadcasters to bring our successful scripted-format library to LATAM and to be able to adapt these stories locally.
GoQuest is pushing Ruby Ring (95×45′), an adaptation of the successful Korean series of the same name. Produced by Media Group Ukraine, it tells the story of two sisters, whose lives are drastically changed in a car accident. Licensed to more than 45 countries —remade in Indonesia— Ruby Ring is a tale of destiny, love, family, betrayal and above all identity and ‘could be very popular in Latin America’, said the executive.
Civil Servant is a series with a never-before-seen perspective of a region that has always been at the forefront of the power game between large international intelligence communities. ‘It powerfully captures the personal and professional toll on the gatekeepers of a modern nation facing internal conflict and global threats to its security, starring international star Milan Maric.
‘Apart from FlixLatino it was also licensed to Globoplay in Brazil, and has been picked up by other SVOD networks in the West Balkans, including RTL PLAY and I’m pleased to say that season 3 will be available soon’, confirmed Pérez.
‘Traitor is another award-winning, fascinating story I would like to highlight. It was written by prize-winning playwright and screenwriter Martin Algus and directed by Ergo Kuld. Inspired by recent spy scandals in Estonia, it is a captivating thriller set in 2004, when Estonia joins NATO and becomes a top target for Russian intelligence. Greed and the need for recognition lead new recruit Alfred Vint to cooperate with Russian intelligence, leading to a thrilling cat-and- mouse game with determined young Estonian counter-intelligence officer Marko Arrak as they navigate the challenges faced in their personal lives’, she added.
Lastly the drama/comedy series Divorce in Peace (20×28′): a couple who wants to end their 20 year-long marriage consult a therapist to devise a divorce plan so they can part on good terms. As expressed by the writer, Martin Algus, Divorce in Peace highlights the wholeness of divorce, the very modern themes and confrontations, the balance between humor and sadness, and the highs and lows of the characters’ experiences and the challenges of family and friendship.
‘GoQuest is an international distribution company, and we love picking up unique, well-produced, well-written plots that will travel well and partnering with producers to bring these great stories into the spotlight. We are very committed to working closely with clients in Latin America and bringing our expertise in the business to the region. Also, we would seek to open new business lines, invest in new stories and productions, and later identify the perfect window to bring these stories to a global audience’.
‘LATAM is moving fast, there are many players producing exceptional content, local broadcasters are also playing a very significant role by producing original stories or adapting known non-scripted formats. So, it’s very interesting to see the drive to produce stories’, described the executive.
She further mentioned the ‘wonderful locations’, which allows audiences from different parts of the world to get closer to South and Central America, with stories coming from local writers and with a local spirit. ‘It is also a challenging panorama as to who will produce what and where it’s going to be seen. We are excited to be part of this with our content, adapting and moving forward with local partners in the search for unique and well-standing stories that will be spoken in original language, with well-built and universal stories’, concluded Pérez.
