HBO Max is expanding its commitment to local documentaries

The platform announced the production of Expediente Linares, a new psychological horror docuseries in collaboration with 100 Balas (The Mediapro Studio).

HBO Max has confirmed that production has begun on Expediente Linares, a new horror and psychological mystery docuseries developed in collaboration with 100 Balas, a company under The Mediapro Studio. The announcement was made by Bibiana González, Head of Original Non-Scripted Production for Iberia at HBO Max-Warner Bros. Discovery.

The executive emphasized that the company’s focus is on local stories capable of sparking conversation and debate. “We look for multi-layered, multifaceted stories that reveal different perspectives as they unfold,” she noted, citing recent titles such as Un minuto heroico and Vivir en el paraíso as examples.

It was in this context that Expediente Linares was unveiled, a two-episode series inspired by the famous paranormal case of the Palacio de Linares in Madrid—a phenomenon that, in the late 1980s, brought widespread attention to the alleged “Raimundita” spirit recordings.

Álvaro Flórez, producer of 100 Balas, explained that the goal is not to retell the legend but to examine it from a critical perspective. “We’re going to dismantle every piece of evidence, review every testimony, and expose the possible frauds. But just when the viewer thinks it was all a hoax, doubt will set in,” he said.

Additionally, HBO Max highlighted among its upcoming releases Los Topuria, a docuseries about UFC fighter Ilia Topuria, which will arrive in June, capitalizing on the global phenomenon surrounding the athlete.

The announcement of Expediente Linares was made during Conecta10, where HBO Max reaffirmed that non-fiction will remain a strategic priority for the platform. “In a globalized world, the local is what truly sets us apart and connects us with the audience,” concluded Bibiana González.
