Kanal D: human dramas and romantic fictions
Turkish distributor Kanal D International is participating in the June markets in Europe with a catalog that reflects the continuity of a production model that has found a stable niche in international television, particularly in Latin America, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East.

The lineup includes recent productions such as The Family Burden, a series about a woman who, after spending two decades in prison for a crime she didn’t commit, faces a new conflict upon reuniting with her daughter and uncovering a web of lies that persists beyond her release. The theme of the past interfering with the present also appears in Secret of Pearls, where an unjustly convicted professor seeks to regain custody of his children while old personal ties resurface.
The offering also features historical dramas like A Father’s Promise, set against the political backdrop of Turkey in the 80s, and contemporary fictions such as Daylight, which explores the dilemmas of a young woman whose life changes when her family moves to care for a sister with special needs. Other titles, like Farewell Letter and Three Sisters, focus on family relationships marked by past secrets, while That Girl and Love and Hope address social inequality and intergenerational tensions from an urban perspective, with plots set in Istanbul.

Rounding out the portfolio are two romantic comedies: Love and Hate, which blends the world of show business with a story of contrasts between two opposing protagonists; and Twist of Fate, where a marriage of convenience leads to a lighter plot of romantic entanglements.
Kanal D International’s offering combines high-volume productions—some exceeding 200 episodes—with others of a more compact structure. Most of the series presented follow the classic 44 to 45-minute per episode format, allowing for adaptation to different markets. While this doesn’t represent a disruptive narrative shift, the catalog aims to sustain the demand for Turkish fiction in markets where this type of content maintains stable performance on free-to-air television, thematic channels, and digital platforms.
