LAVS 2021: buyer screenings per type and origin

LA Virtual Screenings has structured its contents by Type of contents (series, films, factual & docs, etc.) genres (action, drama, comedy, etc.) and origin (USA, Europe, Latin America, APAC, MENA, etc). Today at the LAVS daily newsletter, we’ve included the genre pie. Here we display the type and origin graphics.

The ‘type’ category is perhaps the most important one, because the buyers when must test a product, first they need to know if it is a series or a film, scripted or unscripted, docs & factual or for kids. After this selection, we know if the product is a drama, thriller, etc. But this time we’ve included the genre pie at the daily newsletter because it applied better to the mentioned trends at the article: the rise of thrillers in the pandemic, etc.

What can we say here about type of content trends? Scripted long series is the leader type, due to the predominance the first week of buyers from the Americas, especially from Latin America. They prefer telenovelas and long series from Latin distributors, Spain and Turkey. But passing the week days, more worldwide buyers entered LAVS and now scripted short series and other options gained relevance, as Unscripted formats or docs, kids. Films have kept all the market their portion around 15% of the screenings.

In the origin pie, there is the same evolution: the first week was mostly pushed by Latin and Spanish series, but through the week days, we see also a growth of Turkey and other European origins. The panels held at VS Next bring fresh people and this influences the screenings, for example the Turkish showcase or the MENA conference. Let’s see what happens during the last days of the market, when the share of the contents will be still more fragmented, as buyers continue visiting more and more booths.
