CANAL+: nearly €1 billion for european cinema

The French group will invest €980 million over five years to maintain its exclusive release window and expand its support for local production.

CANAL+ announced a new €980 million commitment to finance French and European cinema over the next five years, starting in 2028. The agreement, reached with French film organizations, extends until 2032 the exclusive window that allows the group to broadcast films just six months after their theatrical release.

The investment represents an increase of about €50 million annually compared to the previous commitment and consolidates CANAL+ as one of the main drivers of French cinema. The group allocated €2.25 billion to programming and production during the first half of 2026 and expects to close the year with spending of nearly €4.5 billion.

At the same time, the group continues to expand its IP strategy through STUDIOCANAL. Among its upcoming projects is Paddington 4, the fourth installment in a franchise that has already surpassed US$700 million in cumulative box office revenue across its three films. The new film will premiere on CANAL+ as the first television window in France.

This initiative thus combines the production, distribution, and exploitation of major intellectual properties, with European cinema as one of its main growth drivers.
