Mediatoon Distribution strengthens global presence at Annecy/MIFA

Mediatoon Distribution, the content distribution arm of Media Participations, continues to expand its global reach in 2024. After attending Kidscreen, MIPTV, and Premios Quirino earlier this year, the company is now present at Annecy/MIFA as part of its strategy to explore and penetrate international markets.

Solène Crepin, Sales and Business Affairs Executive

With a robust catalog of over 4000 hours of content, Mediatoon has successfully distributed iconic shows such as The Adventures of Tintin, The Garfield Show, and more recent hits like SamSam, Troto, and Code Lyoko. This extensive library positions Mediatoon as a leading provider of children’s content, especially among European channels.

As part of its current business strategy, Mediatoon is seeking opportunities in Latin America, aiming to replicate its successful European model by establishing agreements with local TV players. ‘Attending Annecy/MIFA (just after Premios Quirino), and soon MIP Cancun is part of our key agenda this year at Mediatoon. This helps us stay in touch and connected with these markets’, commented to Prensario Solène Crepin, Sales and Business Affairs Executive at Mediatoon Distribution.

Crepin elaborated on her dual role during the markets: ‘I am participating with a sort of double hat, being a spokesperson for the distribution area, but also for production and various sectors of entertainment linked with other companies in Media Participations. We are interested in finding new opportunities as distribution partners or with partners who want to explore the world of entertainment, creating new synergies’.

Belfort & Lupin (before Versailles Unleashed) (26×22’)

Leading Mediatoon’s seasonal offerings is Belfort & Lupin, an adventure-comedy series using 2D animation rendered in 3D. Targeted at children over six, the series follows the adventures of a wolf-dog duo and their exotic animal friends in a 17th-century royal court. Created by T.J. Stehly (Calimero, Barbapapa), with Philippe Vidal (Garfield Show) as director, Florence Marchal (Molang) as writer, and Justine Cunha (Through Lya’s Eyes) as art director, the series is set to premiere in early 2025. It already has partnerships with public broadcasters such as France Télévisions (France), Radio-Canada (Canada), and RTBF’s Auvio Kids TV (Belgium). Pre-sales include public broadcasters like SWR (Germany), VRT (Belgium), RTS (Switzerland), and MTVA (Hungary).

SamSam: Cosmic Adventures (52×11)

Another highlight is SamSam: Cosmic Adventures, a series for older preschool children based on the successful publications by French illustrator and animator Serge Bloch. The show follows six-year-old superhero SamSam as he explores the galaxy with his friends and battles not-so-smart villains. With an audience of over 250 million viewers from its initial TV adaptation in 2007 and a feature film in 2020, this new installment has been acquired by France Télévisions (France), RTS / RTS Kids (Switzerland), RTBF / Auvio Kids TV (Belgium), MTVA (Hungary), and Télé-Québec (Canada).

Living With Dad (52×12’)

Also featured is the animated situational comedy Living With Dad, which has already captivated audiences of M6 / Gulli (France), RTBF / Auvio Kids TV (Belgium), K+ (Vietnam), Canal+ Myanmar, and YLE (Finland). The series follows a single father and his four daughters as they navigate household and parenting tasks, breaking stereotypes with its modern values of gender equity starting at home. ‘Living with Dad is a series that breaks stereotypes with its modern values like gender equity, starting at home. It showcases funny characters learning to live together beyond differences and strong characters, presenting a toned-down and friendly family image’, noted Crepin, who is seeking new international markets for this series.
