Mediterráneo celebrates its 5th anniversary

Ana Bustamante, CEO of Mediterráneo.

Mediterráneo, the company that brings together the production and distribution branches of the Mediaset Audiovisual Group, has become a key player in the industry, managing an extensive catalog with thousands of hours of content of various genres, as well as the activity of the production companies that report to Mediaset España. Home to some of the most renowned production companies in Spain, Mediterráneo specializes in creating exclusive content, developing original projects of international scope and distributing them globally.

Over the past five years, the audiovisual landscape has changed significantly, and continues to evolve. But this constant change is precisely what has shaped Mediterráneo‘s approach, as its ability to adapt and anticipate market changes has been crucial to maintaining its position. Since streaming services entered the Spanish market, they have focused on establishing solid, trust-based relationships. They have worked closely with the platforms, partnering to design and implement customized distribution strategies, trying to maximize the possibilities of each project.  This collaborative approach is fundamental and has led them to remarkable success on multiple platforms, reinforcing their role in the sector.

Ana Bustamante, CEO of Mediterráneo, said: ‘At this point, we could say that Mediterráneo is perfectly positioned at the intersection of creativity and strategy, constantly evolving our approach to audiovisual production and distribution, while fostering strong partnerships to ensure sustained growth and long-term success’.

Mediterráneo‘s main priority in 2025 is to guarantee quality titles that offer something different to viewers. The goal for the coming years is to continue to enhance all of Mediterráneo’s different business lines: strengthening relationships with platforms and developing exclusive titles for them, while globally distributing content by seeking the right combination of business models and windows that provide maximum longevity to all products, both novelties and bookstore titles.

‘It is important to stress that production is a long-term marathon business. The most important thing is to maintain consistency, average success rate and profitability, and to understand that in this industry no one succeeds alone. It takes many forces and allies to succeed, and if one fails, nothing works. Therefore, the goal is to develop audiovisual projects that are attractive to viewers and profitable for creators and the industry,’ adds Ana Bustamante.

At Mipcom 2024, Mediterráneo presents La Favorita 1922, Mediaset‘s ambitious bet to offer quality prime time fiction for next season. A new period drama that combines friendship, intrigue, resistance, the struggle for love and passion for cooking, and where the role of women plays an important role. The plot follows five women who join forces to found the first female-owned restaurant in Madrid, clashing with various social structures that try to repress them and facing all the difficulties they encounter along the way.  This new series, produced by Mediaset España in collaboration with Bambú Producciones (Velvet, Gran Hotel, Las chicas del cable, La Promesa), has high production values and a carefully designed set design that aims to place the plot in its historical context and transport the viewer to the early 20th century. The production company’s track record of success, coupled with Mediaset’s extensive experience in fiction production, has resulted in a series that promises to be very attractive to the audience. Mediaset España has commissioned two seasons of this period drama, and the second is already in the final stages of production.
