MIAM! distribution is thrilled to announce that it is overseeing the international sales of the highly anticipated new animated series, Mare the Mermaid. Produced by Silex Films and directed by the talented Franco-American filmmaker Sam de Ceccatty (Lilith & Eve, Max & Millie, The Walking Dead: Paris Underground), this 10×22’ series is set for delivery in 2026 with France Télévisions on board and promises to captivate audiences worldwide with its fresh, innovative storytelling and visually striking design.
Mare the Mermaid breaks the mold of traditional animated series with its bold narrative and humour that appeals to adults and young adults. Mare the Mermaid tells the story of Princess Pelagie, who ditches her royal life and swims off to college under a new alias: Mare. Her mission? To escape the media’s spotlight and her mom’s watchful eye. But as she quickly learns, blending in isn’t as easy as slipping on a seaweed disguise. As she navigates a sea of secrets and fish out of-water situations, she realizes that embracing her true self is the only path forward. The series explores themes of identity, self-acceptance, and the pressures of societal expectations, all while delivering a rich comedic experience.
Created and written by Iris de Jessey (Mytho S3, Caro Nostra, Tomorrow is ours) and Thomas Colineau (Greek Salad created by Cédric Klapish and French TV series HPI), with art direction by Ana Tortos, Mare the Mermaid brings together a talented team that has crafted a series rich in both visual appeal and narrative depth. Under the direction of Sam de Ceccatty, known for his unique narrative style and cross-cultural approach, the series blends humour with poignant storytelling and will resonate with global audiences who are looking for fresh, relatable content that challenges conventional norms.
In a recent interview, de Ceccatty shared his excitement about the series, emphasizing its contemporary themes and relatable characters that challenge traditional norms while providing humour and insight into modern-day issues. Watch the full interview here : https://vimeo.com/991519261/a0520b2a0a
