MIFA: TF1 confirms increased investment in animated content

Rodolphe Belmer, CEO at TF1.

During the last day of the Annecy International Animation Film Festival and the MIFA market, the French group TF1 has committed to increase its investment in animated content for young audiences as part of a new agreement signed with several trade organizations representing French producers and distributors (SACD, Scam, SATEV, AnimFrance, SPECT, SPI, USPA and SEDPA).

The agreement stipulates that starting next year, TF1 will increase its investment in children’s and animated content, doubling the volume of children’s programming on its TFX channel, in addition to increasing its funding allocation for original French and European cartoons from 5.2% to 6% of the budget.

The French TV channel plans to increase the volume of children’s programming on TFX next year to 300 hours (including 200 hours of animation), which is nearly double the current total of 150 hours. The deal also promises a significant improvement in the rights TF1 receives for the animated projects it invests in.

TF1 and TF1+ broadcast children’s programs such as Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir and PAW Patrol.
