Michael Azzolino, Netflix’s VP of Content for Central and Eastern Europe, Benelux, and Turkey.

Netflix has announced an exciting slate of nine new movies and series from Poland, showcasing a diverse range of stories and talents. This includes the directorial debut of Kasper Bajon, the writer behind the hit series High Water, and a new thriller from the creators of Forgotten Love.

Michael Azzolino, Netflix’s VP of Content for Central and Eastern Europe, Benelux, and Turkey, expressed enthusiasm for collaborating with talented local creators on a recent anouncement of titles in this regio. ‘We are excited to work again with a range of extremely talented local creators – who bring to Netflix their diverse stories, appreciated by viewers in Poland for their quality and distinctive characters’, stated. He highlighted the return of creators from popular platform hits and teased surprises from emerging Polish talents.

Netflix‘s announcement of new Polish content is part of its broader strategy of unveiling international originals. Despite a general industry shift towards profit over subscriber numbers, the OTT remains committed to its international projects. The company opened a Central and Eastern European office in Warsaw two years ago, underscoring its investment in the region’s creative potential.

Leading the slate is Project UFO, a mini-series directed by Bajon. This series transports viewers back to the 1980s to investigate an alleged UFO landing in a remote Polish village. Bajon’s previous work, High Water, garnered significant acclaim for its depiction of the 1997 Central European flood and its management by the authorities in Wrocław.

Following the success of Forgotten Love, director Michał Gazda and producer Magdalena Szwedkowicz reunite for Napad, a movie about a retired policeman seeking justice for a ruthless bank robbery. Additionally, Boxer, directed by Mitja Okorn and produced by Maciej Kawulski (known for How I Fell in Love with a Gangster), tells the story of Jędrek, a boxer in communist Poland who dreams of making it big in England.

Other notable projects include Go Ahead, Brother, written by Kacper Wysocki, which follows a former elite police unit officer tackling financial woes. Klara Kochańska-Bajon co-directs Mothers of Penguins, a series exploring family dynamics and secrets. Actors Jan Peszek and Maciej Stuhr star in a movie about a family’s battle over an eccentric uncle’s fortune.

Maja Ostaszewska (Broad Peak) and Jakub Gierszał headline Colors of Evil: Red, a movie adaptation of a popular novel. Magdalena Popławska returns in Divorce, a film about a couple seeking to annul their church wedding amidst various challenges. Additionally, Netflix has greenlit a second season of the comedy series Green Glove Gang.
