Olympusat, the prominent global media provider, made a significant move into the Mexican television market with the launch of Popcorn Central, a new semi-regional free-to-air channel. Now available on signal 6.4 in Mexico City and across 16 additional cities, Popcorn Central is designed to offer premium content to a broad Mexican audience under the slogan “Your Window to the World”.
The channel’s lineup is set to include highly acclaimed international movies and TV series, marking the first time such premium programming will be available for free on broadcast television in Mexico. Among its notable offerings are Hollywood titles like The Red Road, featuring Jason Momoa and the popular international series Fear the Walking Dead.
Tom Mohler, CEO of Olympusat, emphasized the unique value proposition of Popcorn Central, stating, ‘Popcorn Central is more than just a new channel; it’s an entertainment experience that brings the benefits of premium TV and VOD content to broadcast television’. The channel’s launch also presents new opportunities for agencies and advertisers, giving them access to high-quality programming that attracts a diverse audience of both men and women.
In addition to Popcorn Central, Olympusat is further cementing its foothold in Mexico through other ventures, including the FreeTV 8.2 broadcast channel and the FreeTV App streaming service. These developments are part of the company’s broader strategy to expand its reach and solidify its leadership in both television and VOD services in the region.
Olympusat is also actively distributing 11 FAST channels across different genres, including classic films, horror, action, and children’s programming. The company continues to explore new business opportunities beyond the Americas, signaling a broader global ambition.
