Onza Distribution is going through one of its best moments. They recently celebrated their 10th anniversary and Onza’s growth as a production company goes hand in hand with the distribution area. This year they managed to close important sales agreements, but also acquisitions, which allows them to offer the best content to their clients. The company is attending ATF 2023 to meet once again with Asian clients in Singapore and have the opportunity to show them their new titles.
‘We expect to close a great year in terms of sales. Although we are living through difficult times in the audiovisual world, we are proud to continue to connect with the needs of buyers. We strive to have a varied catalog that allows us to reach all types of audiences around the world, adapting to the cultural differences of each territory and the nature of each broadcaster. We have great expectations for 2024 and a very clear objective: to grow and continue to take our stories around the world’ said Erika Gómez, Onza Distribution’s sales manager.
The company directed by Carlos Garde presents Sweet Strawberries’(20×50′). This fiction series for young adults follows a great artistic contest to find the new talents of a school year at Barra High School. All the students are excited, but a series of mysterious disappearances preceded by cyberbullying will disrupt this joyful enthusiasm and divide the students. Everyone has something to hide, so they could all be the next to disappear. This production is the reboot of the most successful Portuguese series in history, with more than 10 seasons aired in the 2000s.
Another of its highlights is Wild tales of Madrid (1×52′). It is a documentary that shows five incredible stories of animals that develop their life cycle with us, especially in the city of Madrid, a terrain that seems hostile to wildlife where some species have found important advantages for their survival. We will learn about the curiosities of the white stork that, for some years now, prefers to spend winters with the people of Madrid; the turbulent loves of the praying mantis; the fearsome abilities of the lion ant; we will also discover the intimate life of some vegetarian but very poisonous ladybugs; and a magpie will be the victim of one of the most surprising tricks in the animal kingdom: a large spotted cuckoo will pretend to be one of the magpie’s children, a behavior never filmed before. These five wildlife stories run parallel to the daily routine of the people of Madrid. The viewer will witness a secret and amazing world that reveals the beauty of the unexpected, in the midst of urban chaos.
Finally, they present Cacao (100×50′). It is a telenovela, drama and romance that follows Cacao, a young woman from a Portuguese family who makes chocolates on a cocoa farm in Itacaré, Brazil. Her dream is to go abroad and study for a pastry diploma, but it is too expensive for her. Everything changes when her «father» decides to break a long-standing pact with his wife and reveal that Cacao’s real father is actually Justino, the rich owner of the farm, who is shocked to discover that he had a daughter with his ex-lover, who disappeared years before. This revelation triggers a series of intrigues and conflicts that endanger the wealth of the owner’s family, as Cocoa represents a threat to the other heirs. Cacao’s life is in danger, but Tiago, an attractive young man she falls in love with, will do everything possible to protect Cacao from his enemies.
