Paramount+ has announced an expansion of its partnership with Canal+ Group in France, aiming to bolster its content distribution across the country. This strategic collaboration between two entertainment giants marks a significant step in making the platform more accessible to a wider French audience.
As part of the newly extended deal, Canal+ subscribers in France can now access Paramount+ content at no additional cost, regardless of their subscription plan. This immediate benefit allows all subscribers to enjoy the full array of the streamer offerings directly through myCanal, as well as the Canal+ universe on its decoders and all partner set-top boxes. This move significantly broadens the reach of Paramount+ within the French market.
The extended agreement not only enhances the streaming offerings but also ensures the continued distribution of all of Paramount’s pay-TV channels through the Canal+ Group. Channels such as MTV, Nickelodeon, Nickelodeon Junior, Nickelodeon Teen, Paramount Channel, Game One, J-One, and Comedy Central will remain available to Canal+ subscribers. Moreover, Canal+ will retain exclusive rights to premier Paramount Pictures films, which will debut on Canal+ six months after their theatrical release in France. Additionally, at least two Showtime series per year will be exclusively available to Canal+ viewers.
This partnership offers Canal+ subscribers access to a wide range of scripted series, including popular titles like Landman, Tulsa King, Lioness, and Star Trek, as well as acquisitions such as The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. Paramount+ also features blockbuster movies like Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning and Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, along with a selection of French and international originals such as Zorro and Anywhere. For younger audiences, beloved children’s content, including Paw Patrol and SpongeBob SquarePants, is also available.
Marco Nobili, Executive Vice President and International General Manager of Paramount+, expressed his enthusiasm for the expanded partnership, stating, ‘We are delighted to reinforce and expand our already robust relationship with Canal+, one of our key international partners. This new partnership broadens the reach of Paramount+ to all Canal+ direct-to-consumer subscribers, enabling us to more than double our market penetration via Canal+ Group’s platforms, solidifying our position as the fourth largest service in France, reaching more than 15 per cent of homes in France’.
Nobili also highlighted the broader implications of this agreement, noting that it will expand collaborations across various business areas, including linear distribution and licensing. Paramount+ is also preparing for future growth in the streaming sector with the upcoming launch of its advertising tier in France.
Pascale Chabert, Director of Content Acquisitions and Main Partners at Canal+ Group, underscored the significance of this partnership. ‘We have just reached a new milestone in the historic partnership of more than 30 years between Paramount and Canal+. The Canal+ Group is very pleased to offer access to Paramount+ content to all of its subscribers in France. Paramount is the most emblematic studio in Hollywood, and Paramount+ is one of the main platforms in the market. This expanded partnership constitutes another step in the Canal+ Group’s desire to aggregate the best content and applications in the market’.
