Rai Com expands global reach with new SVOD Platform and content

Rai Com S.p.A. (a subsidiary of Rai Group) is set to launch a new subscription-based video-on-demand (SVOD) service named RAI ITALIA+, aimed at Italians and Italian-speaking viewers worldwide. This move builds on the success of Rai Play in Italy and follows the achievements of Rai’s linear channels across the globe. The service will offer a comprehensive range of own content, including TV series, movies, documentaries, entertainment programs, and animation.

The company is participating at NEM, Content Warsaw and Natpe Budapest and, where it is presenting the service, in addition to Rai Italia, the mainstream channel for Italians abroad, that functions as a «best of» the Rai generalist networks. It includes original productions specifically created for Italians living outside the country and Italy lovers, totaling nearly 9,000 hours of content per year. 

The company also is showcasing some titles that highlights the rich tapestry of Italian culture and entertainment:

  • Festival di Sanremo: Since 1951, the Sanremo Festival has been a cornerstone of Italian culture, influencing the news, customs, and musical landscape of Italy. Known for its longevity and massive media reach, the festival is a national institution representing Italy’s diverse strengths and weaknesses. It is the longest-running annual TV music competition on a national level and the inspiration for the Eurovision Song Contest.
  • Paradiso delle Signore: Set in a revolutionary store in Milan, this series captures the spirit of the 1950s economic boom. The store, envisioned by Pietro Mori, offers beauty and luxury to all. The story centers on Teresa, a store assistant who bravely challenges her circumstances to change her destiny, navigating an environment that is both alluring and adversarial.
  • The Best of Italian TV Series: Featuring acclaimed shows like Detective Montalbano, Mare Fuori, Gloria, Lolita Lobosco, and Makari, Rai Com brings Italian fiction to a global audience, airing these series simultaneously with Italy.
  • Original Programs: Rai Com is introducing many new characters and entirely revamped content, specifically designed to reflect both Italian and international trends. These programs will complement the already extensive offerings available on air. 
  • Casa Italia: A new 90-minute TV news program airing from Monday to Friday, Casa Italia caters to Italians around the world. It covers news, sports, cinema, fashion, and music, with four experts addressing the concerns and interests of those living and working abroad.

Expanding Horizons

Rai Com’s participation in major international events, such as the upcoming showcases at Content Warsaw, NEM Dubrovnik, and NATPE Budapest, underscores its commitment to expanding its global footprint. These events provide platforms for Rai Com to present its diverse range of content, attract new partnerships, and reinforce its position as a leading distributor of high-quality Italian audiovisual works.
