Red Animation expands European operations with new facility in Canary Islands

Peruvian studio Red Animation has launched a new branch in the Canary Islands as part of a strategy to both strengthen its co-production model and leverage the tax benefits the island offers for the audiovisual sector. Operating under the name Red Canarias, the new office aims to facilitate access to the 54% tax rebate on production expenses, available for audiovisual projects developed in the archipelago.

With 15 years of experience, Red Animation has worked on both animation services and the development of original content in 2D and CGI formats. Since its founding, it has accumulated over 2,000 minutes of animated content for children and family audiences. Its most recent collaborations include titles like Little Angels and Crayola Crew for Moonbug Entertainment, as well as seasons two and three of Angry Birds: Maker Space for Rovio.

The decision to establish an operational base in Europe also reflects an intention to strengthen ties with German studio Seru Animation, with whom they have already collaborated on the films My Fairy Troublemaker (2022) and Elfkins 2 (2024). Now, both companies have formalized an agreement to jointly develop a new series of animated feature films, which will be financed with the Canary Islands’ tax incentives as a key part of the co-production scheme.

Guillermo Peraza Fariña, with previous experience at Mondo TV Producciones Canarias, assumed the directorship of the new studio and coordinate its daily operations. He is also working alongside Marie Castañeda, Head of Production at Red Animation, to bolster the studio’s technical capacity and scale up its production.

Currently, the company is also advancing in the development of Spark of the Mechas, an original animated series, and in the production of its first proprietary CGI feature film, titled Kai. With this expansion, the company seeks to broaden its network of international alliances and participate more actively in the animation value chain from European territory.
