RTL’s Péter Kolosi: big bets for linear and streaming in 2024

With a big bet on formats and new entertainment shows, Péter Kolosi, Deputy CEO, Director of Programming at RTL in Hungary, unveiled the next moves of the company. Among the novelties, the exec hihlighted X-Faktor, Stzárbox, Traitors – Murder in the Castle, The Winning Couple. In addition to this, many productions will also be shown on RTL this year, where, in addition to brand new programs, old favorites will also return to the screen. 

Kolosi spoke about the RTL program strategy and the next launches on a local podcast show, where also revealed a lot about what viewers can expect this year.

The exec assured that since Hungary is becoming ‘more and more successful in football’, there is an ‘even greater demand for the sport event to get a second season, not to mention that from this fall, Champions League matches will also be shown on RTL platforms, primarily on RTL+.

Fans of the series can watch the latest and final season of Dear Heirs, as well as the third season of Apatigris, which has been shown exclusively on RTL+, and the second season of Side Effects (which this year received 7 nominations at the Television Journalists Award). No sequel was planned for the series starring Péter Scherer, and although the preparations for the third season of Side Effects have already begun, in the end the adventures of Dr. Zoltán Széphelyi will not continue either.

‘The Side Effect is definitely a very nice series for us, but the money we should invest in it, we’d rather invest in new things’, Kolosi explained.

Masked Singer and X Factor are some of the formats that lead the content offer this year on RTL.

RTL is also preparing with ‘great efforts’ for the competition called The Floor, which will be hosted by Zoltán Szujó. ‘Filming will begin soon, and viewers won’t have to wait long to see the stunning studio, the visuals of which play a particularly important role in the show’, he said.

Previously popular programs are also returning, such as Kalandra fal!, which will start again on RTL after 15 years. Kolosi revealed that it is certain that Balázs Sebestyén and Jani Vadon will not host the show this time, but he did not reveal the identity of the new hosts for now.

‘It’s a show that hasn’t been harmed by time and will still be very successful today. At that time, I, as well as the whole country, watched with great joy. We laughed a lot about it, I think we will a lot now’, said the deputy general manager.

In addition to these, the 12th season of ValóVilág is set to premiere this summer, and fans will be able to follow lives through summaries 24-hour stream on RTL+. The Masked Singer will also make a return, promising weekend entertainment for viewers.

Furthermore, Kolosi concluded emphasizing the strategic importance of RTL+, the network’s digital platform. This service has expanded RTL‘s reach and provided viewers with more flexible ways to enjoy their favorite shows. The integration of 24-hour streams and exclusive online content underscores RTL’s commitment to adapting to modern viewing habits. ‘I was in a very good mood last Christmas because last season actually had two programs that can clearly be said to have defined the public discourse in Hungary. And both contents were on the RTL screen. One is Starbox and the other is Traitors. But I could also say the Winning Couple, but we’re all used to it every autumn’ added.
