RTVE: Spanish fiction, documentaries and biographical stories for MIPCOM 2026

RTVE heads to MIPCOM Cannes 2026 with a slate that brings together new Spanish fiction, documentaries and biographical stories, led by Rojo sobre blanco, an 8×70’ police thriller produced by Good Mood (Mediawan). The series follows Daniela, a forensic linguist whose extraordinary ability to uncover clues through language brings her into the orbit of inspector Mario, played by Hugo Silva, as they investigate cases while dealing with complicated personal lives. The series combines crime, comedy and human relationships, and was recently presented at the FesTVal in Vitoria.

The lineup also includes La gran aventura de la lengua española, an 8×50’ documentary exploring the international growth and influence of the Spanish language. Alongside it comes La Frontera, a 5×60’ thriller set in 1987, when France begins cooperating with Spain in the fight against ETA. When a young Guardia Civil captain learns that a secret group is planning an attack in Paris, he must act before the operation takes place. Both titles are part of RTVE’s current international catalogue.

On the fiction side, Barrio Esperanza is an 8×75’ drama centered on Esperanza, a former prisoner who has earned a teaching degree and becomes a primary school teacher. Sin Gluten, an 8×55’ series, follows a successful chef whose struggle with alcohol costs him his restaurant and leads him back to the cooking school where he began his career. There, a new generation of students helps him rediscover his passion for cooking and a simpler way of life. Both titles are currently featured in RTVE Comercial’s catalogue.

The slate is completed by two 2026 productions built around well-known Spanish figures and culture. Rocío, a 4×70’ biographical drama, traces the life of Rocío Jurado, from her childhood in Chipiona to her international success as one of Spain’s most celebrated performers. Denominación de Origen, a 4×50’ documentary, offers an intimate look at the Spanish national football team ahead of the 2026 World Cup, featuring exclusive interviews with 32 players and access to their personal stories and inner circles.

With its combination of new drama, crime, documentary and biographical content, RTVE’s MIPCOM selection reflects the breadth of its international catalogue. The broadcaster’s commercial division handles worldwide sales of programmes, formats and licences, alongside international channels and RTVE Play+, with the current catalogue including titles such as Barrio Esperanza, Sin Gluten and La Frontera.
