Series Mania Forum 2024: industry insights and record attendance

Series Mania Forum 2024 concluded with resounding success, marking its largest edition yet with over 4300 attendees, 18 delegations from various countries, 50 pitches, and an array of conferences and keynotes from industry leaders. Francesco Capurro, the director of the event, reflected on its achievements, citing improved logistics and a robust lineup of sessions that contributed to a seamless experience for all participants.

The event kicked off its final day with a series of enlightening keynotes during the «Lille Dialogues» sessions, featuring executives from TF1, M6 Group, and France Télévisions. Themes ranged from the strategies in streaming to the impact of AI within the free TV landscape. Executives shared insights into their respective platforms’ approaches, emphasizing the importance of reaching diverse audiences and adapting to shifting industry dynamics.

TF1 CEO Rodolph Belmer emphasized TF1+‘s mission to engage Francophone audiences outside France, leveraging advertising-based models to deliver premium content for free. Nicolas de Tavernost, President and CEO of M6 group, emphasized the complementary nature of traditional linear platforms and streaming services, highlighting the need for French broadcasters to compete effectively against international players while navigating regulatory challenges.

Delphine Ernotte Cunci, CEO of France Télévisions, underscored the broadcaster’s commitment to representing French society through its content, aiming to serve all viewers while adapting to evolving consumption habits. Cathy Payne, CEO of Banijay Rights, discussed market dynamics and the impact of AI on content production, expressing optimism for the industry’s resilience and future growth.

The highlight of the forum came with J B Perrete, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO of Global Streaming and Games, announcing the upcoming launch of MAX in Europe on May 21st. Perrete outlined WBD‘s strategic vision for streaming, emphasizing its expansive catalogue, production capabilities, and ambitions to become a top-tier streaming service.

Participants expressed satisfaction with the event, citing valuable networking opportunities, engaging sessions, and positive outcomes. Delegations from Italy, Taiwan, and Turkey reported significant gains, with increased interest in content and productive meetings.
