Taiwan Steps Into the Spotlight at ATF 2025

Taiwan arrives at ATF 2025 with one of its strongest showcases to date. From December 2–5, the Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA) leads a powerful delegation of 92 companies presenting more than 260 titles, reaffirming the island’s growing weight in the global audiovisual market.

A Foggy Tale

What stands out this year is not just the volume, but the range—Golden Horse-winning films, buzzy TV series, and a rising wave of animation, formats, and co-production projects set the tone for an industry that is increasingly confident on the world stage.

A Pavilion Designed for Deal-Making

The Taiwan Pavilion is positioned as a central hub for buyers looking for new voices and premium Asian stories. TAICCA CEO Erica Wang joins the delegation on-site, engaging directly with distributors, platforms, and financiers to expand Taiwan’s partnerships across regions.

TAICCA Chairperson Sue Wang stressed that ATF remains the region’s most important entertainment market, and that Taiwan arrives “with energy and confidence,” ready to demonstrate both its creativity and its strong potential for cross-border co-productions. The agency continues to push for broader licensing opportunities and investment channels that can elevate Taiwanese content worldwide.

Golden Horse Standouts Lead the Film Slate

Headlining the lineup is A Foggy Tale, which dominated the 2025 Golden Horse Awards with 11 nominations and four major wins, including Best Narrative Feature. The film’s success has made it one of the festival’s most talked-about titles and a key attraction for buyers seeking premium Asian cinema.

Other notable films include April—a drama exploring the emotional and cultural connections between Taiwan and the Philippines through the experience of a migrant worker—and Dangling, Taiwan’s first high-rise disaster film, adding scale and genre ambition to the country’s cinematic output.

TV Series With Global Appeal

The Accidental Influencer

Taiwan’s scripted TV slate arrives with a mix of proven IP and high-concept new productions: The Accidental Influencer: Love Me If You Dare—the second season of the hit comedy inspired by Taiwanese influencer Red; Bloody Smart—Asia’s first live-action adaptation of horror maestro Junji Ito, starring Gigi Leung and Buffy Chen; Haunted House Secrets—the latest creation from Lester Hsi, director of the box-office success The Bridge Curse.

Variety formats also play a central role this year. 4 Her Journey follows four established actresses in their forties as they embark on a reflective travel experience; Stellar Bites is a culinary competition where Taiwanese cuisine meets global fine-dining sensibilities; and Have a Pet Day, a warm, celebrity-driven format centered around pets and personal stories, is among the selected productions offered this year at ATF.

Key Industry Events: Spotlight on Buyers and Co-Productions

One of ATF’s major gatherings, Buyer’s Lunch: Taiwan Spotlight, returns after drawing more than 200 industry participants last year. The 2025 lineup features pitches from Lusasa Animation, Xanthus Animation Studio, Flash Forward Entertainment, Brilliant Animation Studios, and True Fun Entertainment. These sessions aim to stimulate cross-border collaborations, packaging opportunities, and global sales.

Taiwanese projects are also visible across multiple ATF platforms: Forbidden Land was selected for the EST N8 Horror Pitch; Republic of Casino joins the SAAVA IP Accelerator; and The Life Changers takes part in the Mediacorp Co-production Pitch.
