Telemundo Studios, the scripted production unit of NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises, revealed the slate of original productions set to begin filming this year and the next one. Heading the list is El Señor de los Cielos 8, La Reina del Sur 3 and Pasion de Gavilanes 2, among many others.
Karen Barroeta, EVP of Production and Development for Telemundo Global Studios, started the presentation highlighting the return of International Emmy award-winning super series El Señor de los Cielos (Lord of the Skies), together with the long-awaited return of Rafael Amaya to reprise his iconic role for an eighth season.
Barroeta: ‘We are excited to share our new production slate and proud to collaborate with such high- caliber, talented actors to bring all these extraordinary lead characters to life and tell stories that will captivate Latino audiences across all platforms. Responding to the overwhelming audience demand, we are thrilled to bring back El Señor de los Cielos and for the opportunity to delight fans with the much-anticipated return of Rafael Amaya’.
Created by Luis Zelkowicz, inspired on the life of Amado Carrillo Fuentes, the former leader of the Juarez cartel, follows the life of Aurelio Casillas (Amaya), a drug lord known for smuggling substances to Mexico, Colombia and the United States. All eyes will be anxiously waiting to see what will happen in this upcoming season with Rafael Amaya’s return.
Other productions announced include new action dramas such from the same creator and starred by Amaya, Todos los Nombres de Aura (working title). Blanca Soto is a complex woman with so many different personalities and names that she no longer knows who she really is. Sandra Velasco’s El Conde stars renowned Mexican actor Fernando Colunga ad tells the story of Alejandro Galán, the victim of a conspiracy in which he is accused of assassinating a political candidate and sentenced to prison. And Culpable o Inocente (working title), a new thriller/drama centers on the disappearance of Adriana Molina and her husband, César Ferrer who is believed to be the prime suspect in her possible murder.
Lastly, two new anthology series: Cuando Habla una Mujer, the first on-screen adaptation stemming from the recently acquired library of the best-selling Spanish-language writer of all time, Corín Tellado; and El Doctor de los Milagros, a compilation of faith-filled stories inspired on the beatified Venezuelan physician known for treating the poor.
In addition to the announcement of the upcoming new productions, Barroeta touted the highly anticipated return of Pasion de Gavilanes II, which premiered on Telemundo last night, as well as La Mujer de Mi Vida, a new melodrama starring Angelica Celaya, Iván Sánchez, Mauricio Islas and Catherine Siachoque that recently concluded filming at the network’s state of the art sound stages at Telemundo Center.
The event closed out with a first look at the trailer for the third installment of Telemundo’s top rated La Reina del Sur (Queen of the South,) starring international phenom, Kate del Castillo reprising her iconic role of Teresa Mendoza. These last two titles are both scheduled to debut on Telemundo later this year.
