Testimonials on VS Next: strong focus on the Spanish-speaking market

Focusing on the Hispanic market, D’Ocon Films (Spain) and Olympusat (USA), Dooya/Nuestra TV (USA) and THR3 Media (Mexico) described about the current content landscape and their opportunities.

Hulda Acevedo, content acquisition director at Olympusat, referred to one of its star products Love In Chains (S3), and mentioned the good reception it has had on platforms: ‘It is a story that attracts due to its cast, locations, and levels of production’. Likewise, the executive announced that due to the success of this season, a fourth part is already underway’.

As for D’Ocon Films, Antoni D’Ocon explained his extensive career into the content business, but specified that today his company has a strong focus on the development and production of films: ‘For us, cinema it is our natural element. So, our current focus is on making feature films, because we believe that these are the current needs of the industry, and even more so now that the platforms are highly relevant’, he remarked.

Arturo Chavez, VP of Latin Content at Dooya/Nuestra TV, described the upcoming AVOD service, which will be launched later this month: ‘Nuestra TV will offer 15.00 hours of content + 45 FAST channels. We are creating strategies and alliances with a large number of distributors and the biggest content providers for the platform. The service was created by Alberto Pardo, Founder and CEO of Adsmovil, with the intention of covering not only the Spanish-speaking market, but also the bilingual one’.

Bruce Boren, CEO of THR3 Media/Grupo Telefilms (Mexico), a company that produces series and films primarily for digital platforms, said: ‘As a trend, we have seen that in Latin America there is a lot of interest in the IPs of great characters who are already part of the popular culture of the region, and of which the audience expects a reboot of these stories. We are working on several animated series inspired by these well-known characters for a whole generation’.
