Toonz: ambitious slate at Annecy 2025
Toonz Media Group is participating at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival and MIFA 2025, where it is showcasing a new slate of original IPs. The studio emphasizes its focus on storytelling that draws from cultural roots while aiming for global appeal.

The animation sector is currently experiencing a period of resurgence, driven by increased streaming demand, international co-productions, and expanding content budgets. Toonz indicates it is leveraging these trends to develop scalable IP and new content opportunities.
P. Jayakumar, CEO of Toonz Media Group, who is leading the company’s delegation, described Annecy as ‘a strategic gateway to the European market and a barometer for where the global industry is headed’. He noted that the event serves as a platform where ‘ideas evolve into collaborations and where the future of animation is actively shaped’.
Toonz is presenting a lineup of original IPs designed for international audiences, while maintaining a connection to narrative traditions:
- CID Squad: An action-mystery series influenced by graphic novels, featuring visual storytelling.
- Misfit Manor: A comedy series centered on a group of eccentric characters.
- Isa’s Edible Adventures: A culinary journey of a seven-year-old character, combining themes of emotion, imagination, and food.
- Witch Detectives: A magical girl mystery series co-produced with France’s Mediawan, focusing on themes of friendship and empowerment.
This slate reflects Toonz’s broader development strategy, which aims to create IP with international potential that remains connected to cultural authenticity. Jayakumar stated that the studio draws from Indian storytelling traditions, reinterpreting mythologies, folklore, and classic narratives through a contemporary, global perspective. He emphasized the goal of creating stories that are ‘unmistakably authentic, yet universally relatable’.
Europe is increasingly a significant market for animation, making Annecy a forum for connecting with producers, broadcasters, and buyers. Anish Narayanankutty, Director – Content Sales and Distribution at Toonz, highlighted Annecy as a platform to ‘introduce our IPs to global buyers, explore strategic distribution alliances, and stay ahead of market demands’.
