This year, the Annecy International Animation Film Festival will feature Une Fugue (To the Woods), the latest short film by French director Agnès Patron, which will screen throughout the week of the event, from June 21 to 27.
The film arrives in Annecy on the heels of a strong international run. In 2025, it was selected for the 64th edition of Critics’ Week at the Cannes Film Festival and won the Best Animated Short Film award in the Short Cuts section at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). It is also among the short films eligible to compete for an Oscar nomination.
The story follows a young woman who remembers her brother: his dark eyes, his hair similar to hers, and the ease with which he found his way to the river. Through these memories, the protagonist reconstructs a bond that remains intact in her memory, shaping an intimate narrative about the absence and enduring nature of affection.
The short film was directed by Agnès Patron and produced by Ron Dyens and Claire Maillard, while the original music was composed by Pierre Oberkampf. With a deeply evocative visual and narrative style, Une Fugue (To the Woods) joins one of the most notable selections of the 2026 Annecy festival.
