On VS Next Day 2, Latin American Major streamers HBO Max, Paramount + and Disney + / Star + were the protagonist of “Major OTT in LatAm: what’s next” where they shared insights and opinion about the segment all across the region, business development, original productions and key partners in terms of production and distribution.

Natalia Scalia, Head of Direct-to-Consumer, The Walt Disney Company Latin America, referred to the recent debut of Star + in August 31, the second SVOD from the group, and the first anniversary of Disney + in Latin America: ‘Disney is already one of the audience’s preference brands in the region, and not only in the children segment’, she underlined.
The executive further commented that today the company has one of the ‘most complete’ content offering ranging from Hollywood studios associated to Disney, as well as divers sports coverages and the best of content for children and family from the Disney, Pixar, Star Wars and Marvel, National Geographic.
‘We are producing local content for both platforms and we have already financed 130 productions that will be released in the coming years and exclusively for Latin America. One of the most recent original for Star + is Brazilian Impuros, which is already one of the most viewed content there; in Mexico, It was not my fault, and for Argentina we plan to launch Santa Evita, based on the character of Eva Perón’, she completed.
Another recent launch in the region has been HBO Max, released in June 29: Latin America has been the very first territory outside USA, and WarnerMedia will continue to launch the services in many European territories. José Calderoni, SVP Head of Growth Marketing Latin America, highlighted the big and diverse team in Mexico, Colombia, Brazil and Argentina. In addition to the iconic titles from Warner Bros., the platform is focused on local original originals such as the Mexican Amarres, or the Mil Colmillos in Colombia.
Marco Nobili, SVP International Marketing & Growth, Streaming ViacomCBS, referred to the power of its ViacomCBS International Studios (VIS) production unit, which already has exclusive development deals with important names in the industry such as Juan José Campanella. ‘In addition to the debut of Paramount + in Latin America in March 2021, we reached 100 channels in Spain and 50 in Portuguese in our AVOD Pluto TV, which has become one of the most used services in the region’.
Nobili underlined the growth of the AVOD model within the LatAm region. He assured that these platforms ‘will find their space among a segment of the population that seeks a more television experience in content’.
