MIPJunior 2023: Kids content thrives in the age of streaming
|

With focus on content new business models as FAST channels, the 2023 edition of MIPJUNIOR, the kids market prior to MIPCOM, remains as the top event of the segment and one of the tops of all the content events, especially now when children represent a modern gold rush for the content industry.

MIPJUNIOR begins today, October 14, at the JW Marriot hotel in Cannes, with an expected attendance (according to data from RX France) of 1,040 participants from 66 countries, which more than 300 are buyers and 735 visitors, broken down between producers, sellers, creators, right holders, researchers and investors who will seek to achieve good opportunities in the 2 days of business dedicated to kids and teens content. Attendance is still lower than pre-pandemic levels.

As Generation Z and Generation Alpha, the youngest and most tech-savvy generations in history, change their media consumption habits at a rapid rate, their growing influence is forcing legacy media companies to reinvent the way they connect with these new consumers. These generations are also becoming more aware of the world they live in, and brands and media have a role to play in addressing issues important to society to gain their buy-in.

At the 31st edition of MIPJUNIOR, RX France organizes strategic keynote conferences, world premieres, international presentations, and also Matchmaking sessions. The first one, it is worth highlighting today's keynote at 12 pm in the Grand Theater of the MARRIOT HOTEL that has Ramsey Naito, President of Animation for Paramount Animation & Nickelodeon Animation, where the executive will talk about the ‘rebirth’ of its animation production unit, with focus on Paramount+ platform.

Prior to the keynote, Glance gives its classic “Being Watching” session dedicated especially to the content consumption habits of children around the world; this is followed by two conferences, one focused on the creation of IPs, with BBC, 9 Story Media Group, and Sinking Ship Entertainment as guests. And then PBS Kids, Blue Ant Media, and The Creative Garden will offer the details of how co-productions happen and how this business model translates into successful projects.

This is a particular year for MIPJUNIOR and MIPCOM, as several conferences are organized with a focus on AI, but also many sessions are focused especially on the FAST business. Like the session “Embracing the AI Revolution in Entertainment”, which brings together companies in the segment to discuss the implementation of this technology in content. Meanwhile, on Sunday (tomorrow) pocket.watch, Animaj, BOLT Global, and OTTera, dissect the secret behind creating a distribution strategy on FAST segments.

Likewise, two showcases are held: The first, on Saturday afternoon, is the co-production of three public broadcasters EO/NPO Zappelin (Netherland), SWR/KiKA (Germany) and VRT/Ketnet, SAÏD & ANNA; and the second on Sunday morning, where Beta Kids & Family present its new products to buyers and attendees.
